InactiveI have a 5 month old who is on Zantac. I breastfeed him, though it has been tough at times. The common battle I have had is with him struggling at the breast and at times not wanting to finish on either side (he does better with the initial flow and struggles when the flow slows down toward the end). Weight gain was an issue for him earlier on, I think largely b/c he was more comfortable on less food. It gets so stressful for me when he is having a hard time eating and I am wondering if there is any advice in general from other breastfeeding moms? Most of the posts I have read here seem to discuss formula and I haven’t seen a lot of discussion regarding breasfeeding. I have many times contemplated weaning him because of the stress of his feeds, but from all I have read it seems that to switch to formula would probably only make matters worse – and he doesn’t eat very well from a bottle. Anyway, any encouragement/thoughts on this end would be greatly appreciated!KristyNovember 9, 2009 at 7:54 am #64478hellbennt

InactiveKristy-I am going through the same thing and do not want to switch to formula either. I have just started the TED diet b/c I suspect soy intolerance and my 3 mo old has just started Pevicid solutabs.
I am looking into probiotics for myself as well b/c it semms like that could help him. If you like, I can keep you posted on what I find & if it seems to be working…December 5, 2009 at 12:03 pm #64942Anonymous
InactiveYes, please keep me posted! That would be great – if nothing else to have support of someone else going through this. We have been on Zantac and it has worked ok, but every 2-3 weeks he really struggles and has a day or two of rejecting some feeds altogether. We got the doctor yesterday to prescribe zegerid but it was only about 1/3-1/2 of marci-kids recommended dose and I don’t really know what to do at this point since we are going out of town in a few days. We got referred to a GI specialist but sounds like we won’t be able to get in until after the holidays.
Anyway, we too are on probiotics (both me and baby). It has helped some but not entirely. I am doing a diet free of gluten, dairy & soy and this hasn’t made a huge difference for us. I have contemplated doing a TED diet but am losing weight right now and can’t afford to lose more – not sure if I can keep my weight up if I do one. Anyway, we just keep plowing along but it is a daily challenge. Thanks for replying!December 5, 2009 at 3:51 pm #64951Anonymous
InactiveDon’t tell my dr, but I went ahead and am giving him the marci-kids dose of Previcid. The Dr perscribed 15mg (7.5 2xday) but I am giving him 7.5 in the am and 15 in the evening and he has been sleeping better at night (last night he went from 9-5!!!!) Go with your gut, and from what I have read here and on Marci kids, it won’t hurt him.
As far as my TED goes, I just realized that rice milk I had been drinking has soy in it, so right now I can’t say that it has helped us. Hopefully in a few more days I will be able to tell…Good luck and I will keep you posted.January 5, 2010 at 8:07 pm #65359Anonymous
InactiveHey helpforshermie…
It’s been a long time, but just wondering how things are going for you guys? I actually ended up getting an allergy test done on our guys. I know they aren’t totally conslusive, but it did confirm he has an issue with dairy as well as a couple of other things. Anyway, would love to hear how things are progressing for you. We are having a really rough week and I would love to be more connected with other moms!KristyJanuary 10, 2010 at 5:47 pm #65435Anonymous
InactiveHi Kristy. Since you’re having trouble with flow and he has trouble with bottles, you might try breastflow bottles by First Years http://www.learningcurve.com/breastflow
.I haven’t used them but several good friends use them with their babies and love them. Good luck! -
