Myles cooperates well if I let him hold a little toothbrush of his own while I am brushing his teeth. I sometimes sing a silly song to get him laughing and that helps, too. Maybe a special toy she can only have while you are brushing her teeth?
June 23, 2006 at 9:47 am #10372AnonymousInactivei agree that watching someone else helps- the boys love to watch julianna brush her teeth.
sometimes though they still don’t want to open. then i say, “open up jack/matt, i think i see thomas (the tank engine) inside your mouth.oh my goodness- where is he?” then they open up. and the whole time i am brushing i tell them what i see- whatever they are into that day- a squirrel, big truck- you get the idea. this worked for julianna too when she was little. ok- a little dorky- oh what a hidden camera would capture in my house , but whatever works- right?
June 25, 2006 at 7:49 pm #10487AnonymousInactiveI just give Hailey a toothbrush with toothpaste on it and let her go to town. I finish it off with a few quick brushes but she loves doing it herself. I can’t remember what age I started doing that but I would give it a try.
June 25, 2006 at 10:30 pm #10506AnonymousInactiveAm I the only one that’s not doing tooth brushing yet? I figure that she really only has a couple of teeth anyhow. Also, there’s no way that my dd would EVER let me put a toothbrush in her mouth (and I’ve tried every kind out there).
Karen, how convenient to have an orthodontist in the family! (Is Marisa a thumbsucker?) The way Hailey is always sucking her fingers I better save up now for her orthodontist bills!
June 26, 2006 at 6:41 am #10512AnonymousInactiveSomeone else recommended that I try an “angel” brush – which I think
Buy Buy Baby also sells but calls something different – basically like
a first toothbrush that they can just hold themselves and chew on and
it gets them used to it. Maybe I’ll pick one up today. I’ve given up
trying in the meantime because she just about has a hard attack!Marisa is a VORACIOUS thumb sucker so yes, her grandpa being an orthodontist will definitely come in handy…
June 26, 2006 at 8:40 am #10516hellbenntKeymaster(I sucked my thumb FOREVER & never had to have braces- I’m not sure if any of the photos online show my teeth, LOL, but seriously it might not be something to worry about here’s an album of us camping in april: http://pictures.aol.com/ap/viewAlbum.do?user=guest&mode= guestView&shareInfo=1uXYxRKKm4S8Z1DL1If%252BkWEcvpb5OwMR IEvhXCboRMRWGd%252BBXiXp6w%253D%253D&albumId=34348.1483. 1151325261885.3)
ok sorry for the hijack! to bring it back to brushing teeth:
ELMO RULES!!! elmo toothbrush (& sheets & underwear, LOL!)
June 26, 2006 at 8:53 am #10518AnonymousInactiveLOL I’m not worried at all about thumb sucking and braces – if she
needs them, she needs them – if not, that’s cool too. I also sucked my
thumb for a LONG time and so did DH.Love the pictures Laura!
Yea, we have an Elmo cup – will get an Elmo toothbrush too but she may be too young for a “real” toothbrush?
June 26, 2006 at 11:39 am #10528AnonymousInactiveLOVE the pictures Laura! I wish I knew how to post online so I could show you guys my little dolls too. Hailey LOVES to suck her two fingers, and I’m actually pretty grateful for it. It saves me from having to do the night search for fallen pacis!
