Oh, good grief.
We finally got some help by mixing Mylanta with Emily’s Zegerid because we were given the 40mg packets. Now that we have the 20mg packets, I’m mixing it up according to the directions and giving it to her. But now, on Day 3, we’re still having major problems with vomiting back up all the medication. It’s not the quick, easy spitting up it used to be, either; it’s more of a retching vomiting.
The 20mg solution is a LOT sweeter (uber-sweet in a nauseating way), and I’m wondering if that’s the problem. We tried mixing in some Mylanta last night–still vomited. I tried diluting it with a few more mls of water this morning–still vomited.
I don’t know what to do. We just can’t keep the medicine down her tummy. Does anyone know what to do?
Dr. Phillips had recommended using a certain amount of Mylanta back when we had been given the 40mg packets of Zegerid, because we weren’t giving a high enough dose to provide enough buffer solution in order to prevent the stomach acid from destroying the omeprazole.
We give it to her directly because she’s still just getting introduced to solid foods and doesn’t accept a bottle. Darn kid got spoiled with breastfeeding and I didn’t force my husband to give her bottles more often… now she won’t accept them. Ugh.
