InactiveI am so desperate for a little sleep.Tanson has been on Prevacid for six days now and things seem to be going ok during the day but worse at night. I have four other children and they need me during the day. I know it can take a couple of weeks to kick in but trying to time his medication is driving me crazy because I cant anticipate when he is going to want to eat to help with the pain. Plus the compounded prevacid tastes horrible so he doesnt want to take it. Please, if anyone knows how to get caracream so I can make it so I dont have to worry about timing that would be great. I thought you couldnt get it anymore unless you had entered that study and the cutoff was in march. I just read some threads that said to try going to a small pharmacy but I dont know of any here. I will look in the phone book. Should I email Marci-kids and ask for some or any ideas?? Also , does any know if there if I switch to Zegerid does it take an additional 2 weeks to kick in if I have been on Prevacid. I am going to go crazy waiting for this to kick in. Any advice would be so appreciated!!

InactiveIt probably would not take two weeks if you switched to Zegerid now because he’s been on some form of PPI for six days already.
The timing of Prevacid around meals was maddening for me. I hated it, but it was working and once Myles was on a typical feeding schedule it became much easier.
Are you using solutabs? I don’t think you can use caracream with solutabs. Only with capsules or tablets. Probably the best thing would be for you to email http://www.marci-kids.com and ask about caracream. It seems like it must be available again because people are getting it.
Good luck. I hope things improve soon.

InactiveDr. Phillips (marci-kids) emailed me that pharmacies that can get flavorx can get caracream. We think our Winn Dixie will carry it since they carry flavorX. I am checking on it this week. He didn’t offer to let us order it directly from marci-kids.com so if you find out please let me know. I am interested too!

InactiveOK, I’m feeling a bit ignorant here since I’ve heard many of you talk about Zegrid and Caracream and I know you don’t have to time the PPI if you use them but really, what are they?
We have Prevacid Solutabs and they seem like they are now working pretty good. Anika’s dose is 7.5 mg’s three times a day but lately we have been finding that she does well on 15 mg’s in the AM and then 7.5 mg’s around 1 PM. She also typically does better if we wait more like an hour to feed instead of 30 min. Overall I’d say we were at about 80% with the 3 doses and I feel like she could use a total of 30 mg’s but I already pushed it with the dr. to get what we have. Most recently we’ve started giving her probiotic in every bottle (just since Friday) and now I’d put us at about 90 or 95% so I guess for now our current course is working but I’d still like to understand what thsi caracream is and how it is used. I am familar with the Prevacid capsules from our son.
Sorry to hijack the thread…

It was posted somewhere that you’re more likely to find a small pharmacy (non-chain) that uses Flavorx to be more cooperative about caracream…however, I hope that your Winn Dixie proves this wrong!

InactiveIf you want to find out more about CaraCream, you can call Chad at Reflux Solutions: (573) 884-0672, or email him: hickscj@health.missouri.edu. He can also give you more information about Zegerid.

InactiveYes, thank you very much… I think I will e-mail Chad. ALthough I think things are going OK for us now, I believe it will be more difficult once we get into baby food and she gains some weight.

InactiveFYI, Winn Dixie cannot get Flavor X and can’t get Caracream. It used to be on their list but isn’t anymore. Guess we’ll be calling Chad!
