InactiveThe pharmacy got in caracream jr and her bottle says 4mg/ml. Who has had success with caracream, it still doesn’t mask the salty taste of the capsules?
The people who got caracream, where did you get it and how did you administer it?????Please help!!!August 9, 2007 at 1:30 pm #40747Anonymous
InactiveHi there. The salty taste is actually from the CaraCream, not the capsules of the prevacid. There’s sodium bicarbonate in it to act as the buffer and that’s where the saltiness comes from.
I think that the taste is a personal thing- Laura (hellbennt) always writes how Jonah loved the taste of the CaraCream. My daughter, Hailey, never cared for it much. It used to be a battle to get her to take it. It was the only thing that worked, so I had to stick with it. She does take it now.The only advice I can really offer is persistence. Use a narrow syringe and squirt it right at the back side near her cheek. If you blow in her face that should make her swallow. I know it sounds really mean. Have you tried to give it to her yet?The other thing is that the CaraCream can be mixed into a bit of formula or breast milk and fed from a bottle or a pacifier syringe.Good luck.August 9, 2007 at 1:32 pm #40748Anonymous
InactiveOh yes…
The other thing I do now that she’s older is that I add a tiny squirt of Hershy’s syrup right before giving it to her. I think that helps her with the taste since she’s got a sweet tooth. I read about that on this site, but I’m not sure if it’s really okay to do or not. If you’re interested in trying it, you can email Dr. Phillips and get his advice about it first… I’m not sure if it affects the stability of the compound.August 9, 2007 at 1:34 pm #40749Anonymous

InactiveIt is 4mg/1ml and she gets 5 ml twice a day so a total of 40 mgs, a lot, I agree but that is what is working for her right now, what dose did you use and how did you adminster it, morn noon, nite etc?

Keymasterhey there,
jonah loved the taste of caracream- I tasted it & it tasted to me like a yogurt (or white chocolate) covered pretzel
he was not on 40mgs but, I bet if he was, we wouldn’t have had to mess around with also giving him zantac and even carafate when his reflux was at it’s worst…I would try maybe splitting it into 3 doses- it doesnt have to be an even split meaning you could do it 15, 15 & 10or any combination that works…or, if you do two doses you could even split it ‘unevenly’ & give the higher dose at the time when reflux is at it’s worse- for jonah that was night time…August 10, 2007 at 8:00 am #40808Anonymous
InactiveI think the dose is great!!! I’d do like Laura suggested and try splitting it into three doses if you can get it in. Good luck. My dd was on 30mg and that was enough for her, but I would have gone higher if she needed it and if the doc would prescribe it.
