Kate has now been taking carafate for the first time today(3ml 4xday). She hasn’t had any AWFUL feeds but I’m not holding my breath because we’ve had good days before.
Anyway, my question is one, is her prescription for carafate too much? She HATES it and gags and screams when I give it to her(I hate to make her cry in discomfort any more than I need to these days). I tasted it to see how bad it was and it was AWFUL!!!
I know it seems silly but is it supposed to taste that awful? It says it’s not supposed to be refrigerated. Should I be giving it to her a certain amount of time away from the prevacid. I’d call the on-call doctor but I’m so irritated with all peds right now because they keep claiming she’s just fussy and you all are the only ones out there who seem to know what you’re talking about. Any words of advice? Thanks! I can’t say anything about the taste because my gerdling is quite the junkie
& he would (& still does) take any kind of med (well he didn’t like zantac at first so we mixed it w/ mylanta…)& I really can’t remember how to space it from other meds- I would just ask the pharmacist rather than your doctor
and all I can say is that when jonah took carafate it was awesome because he would sleeeep & believe me he was not a sleeping-kind of baby (well not until we got his dose of PPI all figured out & he got older)
Brianna took carafate Ok, but she is a junkie like Jonah
…she even took Zantac like a champ.
I do remember that I never refridgerated it. I don’t know what I would have done if Brianna hated it that much. If I didn’t see a major difference, I probably wouldn’t use it. Good luck.
