Since Taylor’s been vomiting since Saturday due to the stomach flu she hasn’t had her prilosec so her poor throat is completely raw. We finally got her to take her prilosec yesterday but she is crying, turning, and arching when she takes a sip of her bottle. The GI RX carafate to help coat her throat to give it time to heal and aid her to eat a little better. She won’t even take 1 oz without fussing and crying. How long does it take for the Carafate to work?

carafate should work immediately—but if she’s been 5 days without her meds—she may just be uncomfortable for a little while—-hopefully the carafate will at least ease some of that. kassie can’t even miss a single dose of her prevacid—–she usually has problems if she does.

It is just awful! She’s had 2 doses of Carafate but the second one I don’t think is still in her, she is at a point that she won’t suck and the formula she is getting is just coming up. She is vomiting in her mouth when the bottle is still in it! This poor child just can’t catch a break! I just keep hoping this ends soon!

Hopefully it will be over soon. Myles had it for six long days and he lost two pounds! I’m sure she’ll turn the corner soon.

What is the consistency of Carafate suspension, the GI nurse told me it would be like mylanta but the one I have seems to be a lot thinner I just want to make sure it is not compounded Carafate.

it’s maybe a bit thinner and suspended- you can *see* the separation going on- you have to really shake it up & also I remeber it needs to be in a dark bottle…HTH

My daughter was on carafate too and I remember that one bottle I got was a lot thinner than the other…the one that was thinner, Brianna didn’t do as well on…it was almost like they put too much suspension in and not enough carafate (if that is even how you should describe it) I hope your little one is feeling better soon!

Thanks for responding. It is like you said thin and suspended. I really thought it would be more like Mylanta. I just hope it kicks in really soon!
