After 1 week on Prilosec compound (from Prevacid solutabs), we’ve been switched back. Prilosec was a DISASTER for us-refluxed like mad and I know it was only a week but he seemed so happy on prevacid-no signs whatsoever of discomfort (despite endoscopy which showed ulcers and reflux-we’re still not sure WHAT was going on there-must have been from week of projective vomiting?). We tried for Zegerid but Dr. said if solutabs made him comfortable, it was our best bet. We’re totally confused now. What was causing the not eating?
Anyways, my question is this-has anyone made a switch from one to another and back to the original? How long can I expect to wait to see him get some relief? Does it take ANOTHER 2 weeks?? Also, he’s on amoxocillin for slight ear infection (which really isn’t bothering him). He’s on day 5 of that with slight diarrhea. Is it possible the antibiotic is what is causing him such discomfort?
Thank you.

I don’t have much advice for the meds as we’re new at this too. But I wanted to mention that we’ve tried probiotics before and you might want to look into them as I’ve read that they are really good for putting the good stuff back into the body, as well as helping the GI system (diarrhea/constipation), after the antibiotics have taken all of the good and bad stuff out. We’ve used it for gasiness- worked right away and he literally gulped down bottles the same day after he had basically been on a food strike too. We use a probiotic called “Babylife” which is lactose-free – found at a natural/organic grocery store in the refrigerated vitamin section.
Good luck, Julie

He is on amoxocillin right now too and he has been really grouchy and crying alot with it. He has a double ear infection and he wasn’t all grouchy until we started the antibiotic.

March 18, 2006 at 11:48 am #4156AnonymousInactiveGreat! Am definitely planning on picking probiotics up today-also heard they really help. I read in Dr. Sears it’s ok to start while on antibiotics…
Sarah-Maybe it is the amoxocillin?? Is Isaac sleeping ok? Ian has been a great sleeper since day one but is doing horribly this last week waking up every hour crying. Also, he has mucous in his stools but only since he started the diarrhea-nothing else has changed…

March 18, 2006 at 1:07 pm #4162hellbenntKeymasterI would think they’d see it in the esophogus in the endoscopy…just a thought to ask, though?
March 18, 2006 at 2:22 pm #4166AnonymousInactiveIsaac has slept through the night for a while and just woke up last night screaming for hours. The only thing I think it could be is the antibiotic. He also had alot of muccous in his stool this last diaper and that has not happened in months. I am going to pick up a probiotic too and see if that helps! I hope Ian is feeling better soon!
March 18, 2006 at 5:30 pm #4175AnonymousInactiveOh Sarah, I’m sorry, I know how hard it is. How long have you been on antibiotics? We’re actually wondering if we should have the ear checked again..Got probiotics today. Is it ok to put them in his next bottle if that’s the one I give prevacid before? Do they interact?
Tracy
March 18, 2006 at 7:00 pm #4177AnonymousInactiveI gave the probiotics in a different bottle than the previcid bottle. I don’t know that you need to though.
Good luck and peaceful sleeping soon for everyone!
JulieMarch 18, 2006 at 9:07 pm #4186AnonymousInactiveGood thought with the esophageal thrush – I would definitely ask,
Tracy. And if they even suspect it, a course of Diflucan should be in
order (don’t settle for Nystatin).I also think the probiotics could help – as you know, we use Baby
Jarodophilus. You may want to start out with half the dose (1/8 tsp
instead of 1/4) for the first week to help get him adjusted to it.Emailed you my thougths on the other issues with doctor right now… Hope Ian is doing OK.
