InactiveLauren,
I used the straight nipples, not the NUK.
You know I was thinking last night about the Avent bottles. They are made so that they sippy cups and the bottles have interchangeable parts, so you can use the bottle nipple rings and nipples on the sippy cups, and the sippy cups are made from colored plastic, so maybe they are safe.

InactiveI also hated the playtex disposables! The nipple always collapsed, but the worse part was not being able to mix them.
Because of Hailey’s feeding problems, there’s no way I can make a change now. I’m just going to stop using the microwave steam sterilizer, buy a new batch of Dr. Brown’s and wash them by hand in luke warm water. Hopefully that cleans them enough. I always worry about food borne germs b/c of her being on a PPI.

InactiveLori, I am going to have to do the same thing I think…I would hate to mess with Addy’s eating since we went through food adversion for 4 months (we tried the playtex drop ins and she would not drink from it). I pray that this will work and the BPA won’t go into her system and isn’t there already…I said a prayer for all our little ones last night about this…ugh…I am still so angry! But so glad to know, thank you Natalia.

InactiveAccording to the links Natalia supplied, the Avent Magic Cups are safe. I’m 90% sure you can put an avent bottle nipple and ring on the sippy cups (you can with the avent sippy’s I have), so then those of you who are using Avent bottles may be able to use the sippy instead (with the bottle nipple).

thank you so much! thats what i m going to do. im saw the toddler 9 oz sippiy cups and you can use those as bottles!! its just such a shame they are so expensive-2 of them were like $8.00
thanks again CHristine!March 2, 2007 at 6:28 pm #26407Anonymous
InactiveYou’re welcome! They are expensive, but well worth it if you don’t have to worry about poisoning your child while using them.

Inactiveugh.. i didnt get a chance to read any of these posts and i was out all day and decided to get shane the playtex dropins!! i did o.k on it tonight.. so we will see.. my sister in law used them and her kids did well.. .. i bought the silicone nipple so that he wouldnt get too confused.. its almost like the same wide shape. and i decided not to do the gerber because of the tiny nipple and i thought he would like the wide shaped ones that he was used to. ugh, who ever thought soo much about baby bottles!!?
and i did think about the cups.. i have 2! i wasnt sure if they passed as safe and they are hard to measure and see how many ounces it is….and i was out and couldnt check to see what you guys wrote and i couldnt stomach giving him another avent one. oh well.. hopefullly he will like these just fine.. we’ll see.. if not i will do the cups.

InactiveI heard about this a long time ago, before Aidan was born, I knew I was going to bottle feed him, but honestly I didn’t give the reports much thought. I used Avent with Austin and he’s fine. My sister used them with her oldest and he’s fine.

the problem is, the things that these chemicals cause to happen to your body arent like obvious. im not sure if youve read the report, but all of the effects mentioned arent things that people would blatantly notice. they effect things like hormone imbalances and reproductive impairments and studies have shown the chemical causes cancer in lab animals, so it will probably eventually do the same in humans.

InactiveIam copy this info from naother forum
“Found more info on the web
DO NOT BUY: Contains PVC!
These bottles contain PVC, dangerous, toxic and carinogenic. PVC is banned in Europe but not yet in the U.S. although most companies are removing it from children’s products. This one still contains PVC.
Other Polycarbonate product examples to AVOID:
Bottles: Avent; Dr. Brown’s; Evenflo (clear); First Years; Gerber (clear); Playtex Vent Aire; Sassy; TupperCare.
Sippy cups to AVOID: Gerber Suzy’s Zoo & Sippy Snacker, Playtex First Sipster & Sparkling Sipster.
SAFER ALTERNATIVES: (Non-polycarbonate products)
Bottles: Evenflo glass or pastel polyethylene plastic; Gerber polypropylene opaque plastic; Medela breastmilk polypropylene storage bottles and polyethylene milk storage bags; disposable bottle systems with polyethylene plastic inserts (e.g., Playtex Nurser, Playtex Drop-Ins).
ALSO SAFER: “Sippy” cups made of polypropylene or polyethylene: Avent Magic Cup; Evenflo cups (inner lining); First Years Take & Toss; Gerber Color Change, Sport Fun Grip and Soft Starter; Playtex Sipster, Big Sipster & Quick Straw.
Note: Baby bottle nipples are usually made of silicone or latex rubber. Silicone nipples are lighter in color and are safer, as latex rubber nipples may leach carcinogenic nitrosamines.22
Please educate yourself on the dangers of PVC and safer alternatives, especially for children’s products, including many toys. Pass along this information to all you know with children, ‘google’ PVC-free alternatives, and as consumers let’s force companies to stop using this toxin”

InactiveI can not believe I didn’t see this thread until now…I feel just sick about it! I use the Dr Browns with Dagney (after trying most on the market too), I was using the Playtex Drop Ins for a while until we started thickening her feeds & she couldn’t get it through there. I did just find the cross-cut Playtex nipples, so I may just have to switch to those & even cut them more if she can’t get enough out. I have mixed feelings about the Playtex, as you can’t really tell how much your baby has eaten unless you open them up and let the air back in, oh, and of course the whole mixing thing, what a nightmare. They ARE a whole lot easier to use, and less washing is involved. I just bought 2 new Dr Brown’s bottles too, to send to my MIL’s when I go back to work, but luckily I haven’t opened them yet, so I can return them for more playtex nipples and drop ins! I have spent SO MUCH MONEY on these bottles!! This makes me want to try breastfeeding again when we have another little one, which won’t be too soon!!
