InactiveI’m a new dad with a baby girl who has reflux. My mother was a member of this site and told me that the people here are pretty helpful. Anyways, she told me that I could give her cherry mylanta when she is feeling uncomfortable and that might help her, but she didn’t remember how much. Can somebody help me with this?

InactiveWe usually say to give 1ml up to 5x/day, if she has loose stools (a side effect of too much) then you should back off.

InactiveDoes anybody know if this ok for babies already on prescription meds? My Gracie takes Prilosec (compounded) every 12 hours. But she still has “episodes” sometimes. I really would love to give her something to help during the pain, in between doses of Prilosec.

Keymasterwelcome!
mylanta (or store brand equivalent- any ‘kind’ that does not contain aluminum) is fine for use with prilosec, BUT you need to space it 4hrs from a PPI.
you can give it (mylanta) with zantac, tagament, pepcid & axid
but you must space it from the PPI.here is the welcome/intro that I give to newcomers – it’s looong, but very helpful & full of good info to help you- refer back to it as you go along…
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=853also: your prilosec most likely isn’t being compounded correctly
. please read the link above and look for ‘Prevacid 101’ (it has prilosec info too)
and also go visit http://www.marci-kids.comSeptember 15, 2010 at 8:49 pm #67040Anonymous
InactiveOk, thanks! She’s only 2 months old, so still keeps me VERY busy as she has several other issues along with the GERD and I have two older sons… so I will read through all of it as I can.
Since her Prilosec is probably not being done right, would it likely be better that I buy an OTC version of the pills and administer it myself? I’ve seen where some people are doing that here, but haven’t yet had a chance to read through much detail yet.(she’s been on Prilosec for about 4 weeks now… seems to have lessened the severity of her ‘attacks’ but not the frequency
)September 15, 2010 at 9:00 pm #67043hellbennt
Keymasterdepending on your insurance and cost of OTC, you might be better off doing some sort of combination? you’d have to find out what form of prilosec you can use w/ bufferbabies (this makes your own stable compound- you buy it and then mix it w/ the prilosec like a mad scientist heh heh). OR you could switch to prevacid (also OTC) and again find what form to buy and/or ask for in rx form…prevacid 101 has most of this…

Inactivedid you gals really guess that this is my son? he has the cutest little girl—-and i still have the magic touch. i can rock her and sing to her and she is out like a light. i wish i knew how to post a picture of her. we have 5 grandchildren now, but this is the first one from one of the children i actually gave birth to. we have a set of twin grand babies just a few weeks younger than leif’s little girl—her name is echo olivia.
leif babysits in the evenings by himself quite often since his wife works an afternoon to evening shift and he works nights. he has shown up at the house when he can’t get her to stop crying.
her reflux seems to be improving. i wanted him to take her up to the ped gi that we love, but i don’t think their doc wants to give them a referral—-and since she seems to be doing better, they are not going to worry about it right now.kevieb2010-09-17 20:21:28

Keymasteryes I guessed it! I know your son’s name is leif!
…he named his daughter echo…is his wife’s name ‘nature-esque,’ too? lol.
HI CHRISTINE!

Inactivenope, her name is catelyn—i think that is how you spell it. i never really intended to have nature sounding children’s names—-you notice leif is not spelled leaf—-but when i named daisy jane, everyone just heard two names that sounded like plants. leif is often pronounced with a long a sound—but i never liked it that way. it is scandinavian or swedish.
i wanted to play on the nature sound later when i had my twins. i wanted to name them heather and jasmine—-but kevin thought there were too many jasmines—so the only other nature name i got was samantha’s middle name, which is rose. molly wanted me to name samantha butterfly!!!September 25, 2010 at 5:05 pm #67091Anonymous
Inactive2.5ml per dosing no more than 3tsp per day and needs to be spaced at least 2 hrs apart from your compounded med.
if you have a CVS in your area, their generic is safe for LO… -
