My son is 8 wks, just started Nutramigen and is on 30mg of Prevacid daily. (Silent reflux) Last night he went down about 10:30 after eating at 9:30 and he slept until 1:30. But after I fed him at 1:30 he would not go back to sleep at all. I ended up laying down with him thinking this would help, but I noticed that he is gagging in his sleep. He will fall asleep for about 5-10 minutes and then he stats to gag and it wakes him. Needless to say, we are all exhausted!
Just wondering if anyone else experienced this and what I can do to help him sleep?

That will help with the gagging. also you could try sleeping on his tummy (seems to work better for reflux babies but I understand if you are worried about SIDS)Those are the first 2 things I would do as you already have the meds/formula in order. Maybe someone else will chime in if they have another idea.

You might
want to try tummy sleeping? This is
from the American
Academy of Pediatrics
& how they recommend that tummy sleeping is best for GERD babies.http://www.aap.org/new/sids/question.htm (thanks
Sherry & Christine!)There’s
a monitor that you can use called the Angel Care Monitor that many of the
parents on this board have had great success with. Jonah was sent home
with a monitor from the hospital, so I don’t know firsthand about the Angel
Care monitor, but here’s all about it: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/search.asp?KW=angelcare&SM=2&SI=TC&FM=0&OB=2BEANIE
BABY: for day time naps I suggest this: Try putting her on her tummy & put
a beanie baby on her back for 2 reasons- to see that she’s breathing (the
beanie baby will go up & down<v:shape id="_x0000_t75"
coordsize=”21600,21600″ o:spt=”75″ o:preferrelative=”t” path=”m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe”

height:12.75pt’>
)& for the
weight- put your hand on her back & then slowly leave it & the beanie
baby is there instead…For
sleeping, there’s also the Tucker Sling that people rave about: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/search.asp?KW=tucker&S

the Amby Hammock: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/search.asp?KW=amby&SM=

October 12, 2009 at 7:37 pm #64203AnonymousInactiveThanks for the reply….I keep him in a peanut shell all day, and it does really help. My daughter also was on the Tucker Sling, but he does not seem to like it much, but I am going to give it a another try.
October 13, 2009 at 2:55 am #64212AnonymousInactiveWe have the same thing happening! My son Haden sleeps from about 8:30-2 every night. But after his middle of the night feeding it is SO hard to get him to sleep comfortably. This has being going on for almost 2 weeks straight now. No solution yet, but just wanted to let you know you are not alone!
October 13, 2009 at 7:19 pm #64241AnonymousInactiveWell i have been trying to put him on the tucker sling which wakes him…so i have elevated the mattress instead, hopefully this will be better. Let me know if you figure something out, thanks.
October 14, 2009 at 8:00 pm #64256hellbenntKeymastertry mylanta cherry supreme at this time of night and/or if you have any zantac/axid/tagament…
for the mylanta cherry supreme- this particular type of mylanta (adult kind there is no for children; is extremely safe even for newborns) has no aluminum- may be hard to find- but there have been reports of generic store brand varieties – the important thing is to check the back of the label for no aluminum- anywa give in 1ml increments, up to 5mls- if you see loose stools, then just back off…
October 14, 2009 at 9:29 pm #64259AnonymousInactiveThanks, I’ll try that
October 22, 2009 at 1:41 pm #64341AnonymousInactiveMy daughter is nine months and we had this problem as well. The only way it got better was to wean her from the night feedings. We found that she has to be upright for about an hour after eating to comfortably sleep.
I weaned her by limiting the amount in the bottle- I knew that she could be mostly full at 3 ounces so we started there– then moved to 2 ounces and eventually- she stopped waking up for it.
The issue was that she needed to be upright after she ate.
