InactiveCan someone please tell me if there is a difference (and what it is) between the sizes 2t and 24 months?

InactiveI think the main difference between 24 month and 2T is that 24 months clothes usually have snaps between the legs for diaper changes, while 2T’s generally do not. That’s mainly because babies used to be much smaller than they are today and were potty trained much younger than they are today. So, back when the clothing manufactures came up with these measurements potty trained toddlers were often small enough to be wearing clothes that would also fit many bigger infants who were still in diapers. So, they came up with the 24 month/2t split.
All manufactures are different but some make 2t clothes a little longer in the legs, but it really varies greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer.

InactiveThanks, Christine for taking the time to answer. I guess that does make sense…
I have a hard time finding pants for Seth since he is long but LEAN and the size thing has only added to my confusion. He’s in 18-24 months clothes now so I thought 2t pants would work since he can also wear some 2t shirts but they slid right off of him! Just trying to figure out what size to buy for the fall…

InactiveHi Tiffany,
There are some brands that have adjustable waists. I bought Brodie Levi’s and inside they have an elastic and buttons to expand or decrease the waist so they still look good on the outside (kind of reminds me of some maternity pants and shorts) I think Kohl’s Sonoma brand and I’m sure some others have this feature. Brodie is tall and lean and these work for him.

InactiveMaybe overalls would work for him. The waist doesn’t matter much and the straps are usually adjustable. Besides, little boys look so darn cute in overalls.

InactiveTiffany –
I’ve had the same problem with Owen! He’s getting more and more tall and more and more lean every day it seems – he’s towering over some kids that are 6 months older than him – so everything either ends up being capri pants on him or end up falling down so his bum’s hanging out! We have some stuff that is 18 months, some that is 24, and others that are 2T. I’m not sure what the answer is but wanted you to know that you aren’t alone!
Good luck!

InactiveKaelyn doesn’t fit into most of her 24 month stuff anymore and almost everything else is 2T. So, I guess 2T must be a little bigger than 24 month. We have the same problem with her pants. She’s really tall and skinny, so they all fall off of her. When she stops wearing diapers, her pants will never stay up! I’ve found that Old Navy and the Gap have pants with adjustable waistbands. They have some great sales on their websites about once a month.

InactiveAt Target, this season they have a whole lot of adjustable waist pants for like $9.99. They are the genuine kids brand. There were about 6-7 different styles for girls & there were some for boys too.

KeymasterI saw these discussed over on another board- it’s nothing that I would use (at least I don’t think so?) but here you go

InactiveWe also are going through this with Henry. We have a wide array of sizes for him. the 2T shirts seem to be longer than 24mth.
The target pants sound great. And bibs are a godsend. We have a ton of them. Those tinybigs are funny and cute. don’t know if I’d ever use them either.
Isn’t it sad when you no longer get to use the snap up clothes

they’re so convenient and cute. Our babies are growing up.
