I don’t understand!! Just when I am SURE that he must have reflux ( we are going to dr tomorrow anyway ) he will be fine!

My mom spent the night last night and totally took over so I could get some sleep. Now I have to admit that over night hasn’t been AS bad. He will eat and fall back asleep, after some rocking etc. Then it seems as the days progress he is more and more fitful, screaming, choking, etc until almost 12-2 at night, then back to being clamer.

She said he did fine last night and then woke up at 7 fell asleep at 9 and went back to sleep until noon. Fell asleep at 1 and now it is 4 and he is up. What gives? I have been dealing with screaming and eating every 2 hours and awake every 3o mins….

We have been doing the rice thing in every bottle now- is it just now starting to really help? Or is it just a fluke? I don’t want him to be in pain, but in a way I wish he would just follow some pattern so I would stop second guessing myself!

Do other reflux babies have a kind of “better” time? My first DS it was 24/7 so I guess this is really throwing me for a loop…

Reflux is a rollercoaster and I used to have good days with mine in which I though I must have been nuts or have been imagining things because they seemed perfectly fine.

However, once you find the right treament plan (meds, formula, thickening or not, etc.) the pain of reflux should be controlled and so there should be more good days than bad days. Hopefully the cereal is helping him and he’s going to be happier overall. Once Myles was properly medicated he was pretty much pain free and comfortable. His bad days were days in which he puked more than other days, but that’s not that is fixed by reflux meds.

Is he on any meds? Sorry, I can’t remember.

A rollercoaster from h*ll…

yeah, it seems the cereal is helping also- he has been asleep for 4 hour stretches all day!! i got a different nipple which is just fast enough for the cereal, but slower than the one I had yesterday.

We aren’t on any meds- should i stick with the cereal of do you think it is just a matter of time??

My instinct tells me to go for the meds…

I’m a big believer in trusting your instinct, you live with Cooper everyday. That being said, if you think he is pain I would try the meds…if he doesn’t seem to be I might hang out a little longer.

Alana had pretty much awful days until Zantac, then good and bad days until most are now good on Zoton (prevacid). Occasionally even now she might flair up…but usually for something else is up (teething, cold, immunisations…).

It sure is a rollercoaster! I’ve also noticed that when someone new is around, or we’re in a different situation, my little one won’t be as bad…maybe it’s the distraction, or they just save all their whining/pain, etc for mommy? I know a lot of us here have had days when we thought we were crazy, that we were making up the symptoms, but then they come back full force. Like Therese said, trust your instincts! My little one has many more good days than bad now, it will get better!

If he’s happy, eating and sleeping well, and doesn’t seem to be in any pain, I’d stick with what’s working.

Ugh, I remember those first 2 – 3 months as well with the every other week growth spurts. I remember that every other week seemed bad, then good, etc… reflux aside…

I would think I would ask for the script and hold onto it for a while. It seems you might be figuring him out without the meds just yet.
