Do meds help the pain?

My almost 4 month old has been on Prilosec granules for almost 2 months, but his reflux has been much worse the last several weeks. He has these ‘episodes’ where he gulps for air, arches his back, screams and has this foamy stuff come out of mouth. Obviously, he is in pain. And more often than not he arches his back and cries when he takes a bottle, especially during the day. My question is this….I know meds can’t cure reflux or make him stop spitting up, but should it relieve some of his pain? If so, maybe the Prilosec isn’t working and he should try something else? the meds are for the pain.

I would check out http://www.marci-kids.com and figure out the PROPER dose for your baby

then I would check out

Prevacid 101 (last post on the page) and read all about PPIs (prilosec, prevacid):

then I would decide what FORM of prevacid (or prilosec) to try.

Personally, I would go for (& did go for) Bufferbabies (it’s explained in prevacid 101)…

in the meantime, if you have any zantac on hand, I’d give that, too, making sure to give it 4hrs seperate from the prilosec.

Have you talked to your doctor about your LO possibly having a milk protein allergy? Reflux and excessive fussiness can be common symptoms. It is worth considering and maybe switching to an easier to diegest formula if your ped recommends it.
