InactiveSorry to post again so soon
Ariella started crawling at around 9 months and now she’s a pro. I keep hearing people say “oh, if she’s crawling, she’s more comfortable doing that so she’ll most likely not walk any time soon”. Is it true? Do kids who do not crawl end up walking sooner than those who crawl first? I see her “attempt” to take a step but she ends up sitting down and crawling to the desired destination. mariannardh 2007-08-20 16:29:18 August 20, 2007 at 6:16 pm #41446Anonymous
InactiveI don’t think that’s the case. Each baby is so different. Gabby started crawling at 6 months so she had an awfully long time to practice and get good at it. At 10 months, she took her first steps and by ten and a half months she was full blown running.
The attempts to take steps tells me she’s gearing up to walk. I think the time between those first inquisitive steps and walking was about a month. She’ll get there and then you’ll wish she was just crawling again. 😉

InactiveSarah did everything really advanced with her gross motor EXCEPT walking. She sat up early, crawled early, pulled to stand early, cruised early…but didn’t really start to walk WELL until around 13 months. I agree every baby is so different. At first Ariella will prefer crawling because she is good at it, but eventually walking will prove to be the quicker method. She’ll get the hang of it.

InactiveShane was just like Sarah. He too started crawling @ 6 mos. and didnt walk until 13 mos! There may be something to it.. that they feel like they can get places crawling.. so they arent in a rush to walk. I think that is what it was with Shane.. he was the FASTEST crawler i have ever seen! But actually Kathy does have a point..if she is already “attempting it” then she might do it sooner rather then later.Shane wanted nothing to do with it.. then all of a sudden decided to walk and took off!

InactiveEvery baby I’ve known that knows how to crawl, but still likes to get to things fast, will sit down and crawl. Owen is at that stage right now! But, then one day, they figure out, that’s it’s better to walk and it’s fun to be upright like everyone else and they just take off, each in their own time!

InactiveI’d say if she is starting to take a few tentative steps here and there it won’t be long until she takes of. When Alana started doing this, it was about a month until she was walking like a pro. We did lots of walking with her, starting with two hands and then only holding one hand and I think it really helped her get interested in it. And I agree with Kathy, sometimes I wish for the crawling days!
