InactiveI know it’s heresy on this board to ask that question, but I’m starting to wonder. I have a 5 week old “happy spitter” and a 2.5 year old former reflux baby. The 2.5 year old had it bad, with constant crying all day. My newborn spits up far more quantity, but doesn’t seem to mind at all.
This brings me to this site as we’ve recently had my new son put on Prevacid. It’s compounded and flavored at a local pharmacy. I know that’s against the rules according to Dr. Phillips and MARCI-Kids, and I became very concerned when I read their comments.
So over the last couple of days I’ve been researching MARCI-Kids. As we all know, their website is under construction. Oddly enough, the email address info@marci-kids.com doesn’t work either. Searching google for relevant information from MARCI-Kids only yields links from this site and others like it, or of course to the defunct MARCI-Kids website. Searching google maps doesn’t yield a physical location for this “institute,” and as far as I can tell they’ve published no research. I can find no link between the University of Missouri and MARCI-Kids.
Can anyone show real data that they’ve ever presented to the medical community?
Believe me – I want them to be real so that I can take something to our pediatrician to convince him that the compounded form is no good and that we need a higher dosage, but there only seems to be one paragraph that 200 hundred different people have linked to that says that compounded PPI’s aren’t recommended and are only stable for 5-7 days.
How can I get my doctor to take me seriously when I can’t prove to myself that MARCI-Kids actually exists?

InactiveI believe that Dr. Phillips exists, and I see he has published in a couple of journals. But what about MARCI-Kids? What evidence do you have that it’s the real thing? Where is it? Where is their research? Have you ever found anything where anyone else in the medical community refers to them? How do you know they exist and are qualified to give this advice?

KeymasterHe and his staff are the ones who are giving this advice. He is the one published, as you can see.
My own ped GI went to the U of Missouri (coincidentally! I live in FL)and he listened to me, read the litterature, etc….I’m not sure why it matters if Marci-kids exists? I mean I KNOW it does, but, for the sake of argument, who cares? Dr. Philips exists and he didn’t do research all by his lonesome and he’s published…I found a possible explanation:[site down]Probably b/c Santarus (the maker of the rx formula of Zegerid) has been losing money since they lost the patent rights allowing another company to make the OTC version. Santarus may have had the rights to the Marci-kids website once Dr. Phillips sold them the patent and they may have chose to shut it down so customers would not use the dosing information with the competing OTC product. But Dr. Phillips is still around and he still has fans of dosing recommendations on other reflux websites.
