Does she have reflux?

well, we got our diagnosis, dr says she has GERD. She just went by what we told her. The main symptoms she went by were the verry poor sleeping habits, vomiting up to 1-2 hours after feeding & chokling/gagging for no reason.

she prescribed reglin (.5-1ml 2-4x per day) before feeding. she also said we got very good information about the mylanta & sleeping angles, etc. She asked where I got that information so I told her this website name. But she told us to give her only .5ml of mylanta 4x/day for now cause she is only 6 weeks.

I kind of wish she had just went ahead and prescribed the prevacid but she told us she likes to try reglin first, she may not even need the prevacid or other acid medicine. But she said if the reglin or dose doesn’t work they will increase the dose or change the medicine.

I do know it isn’t working yet cause she is still spitting up a lot and seems uncomfortable all the time. But she has only had two doses.

Hmmmm… does she think your daughter has DGE? Reglan is given for this this, as it helps the stomach to empty faster. If your daughter doesn’t have DGE, then it isn’t going to help. Furthermore, it does NOTHING for the acid, it only moves the food through more quickly. Also, it can have some scary side effects. There is info on it in Laura’s intro. post.

The Mylanta will only help temporarily.. the same way it helps us. But if your daughter has GERD, then the acid isn’t going to go away, and she will need something more permanent.

I think I would try to call the doctor back and ask to switch meds.. Check out http://www.marci-kids.com They have the best info on acid reflux for infants and how to best treat it.

Ok, thanks. She told us the prevacid would probably be next if the reglan didn’t work. The main reason she gave her the reglan is becasue she is spitting up her milk up to 2 hours after feeding so she said she was holding her food too long in her stomach. Is that DGE? I’ve never heard of that. She just said she probably has a little reflux w/ a little milk intolerance & maybe even other things all overlapping.

She said the reglan would allow her esophogeal sphincter (or whatever it’s called) to calm down or heal itself by keeping the acid from refluxing, can’t remember her exact words. She did tell us it would not reduce the acid. But that will come next if needed, she was clear about that.
