I’m hoping someone can help me!
I’m a FTM to a 4 month old little guy.
He was diagnosed with reflux and put on Zantac twice a day. After seeing minimal improvement, he was put on Prevacid.
As soon as he was put onto the PPI, his spit up was dramatically reduced. In the last week, however, he has started to vomit – sometimes up to 4 times in one day. This is new, and it is definitely not spit up.
I also noticed that he would sweat a lot. Initially I thought it was just during our nursing sessions, but then it would happen when he was not feeding at all. I also noticed that if we came home from being “out” anywhere, his sweater/jacket/clothes would be wet from sweat.
I attributed all of this to the Prevacid and decided to take him off the medication a few days ago on the advice of a lactation consultant. We went back to the Zantac so he wouldn’t be cut off “cold turkey”.
We have had three days of extreme fussiness and now I am second guessing my decision to take him off the Prevacid.
I just don’t know what to do for him anymore.
Has anyone had any experience with the sweating/vomiting??? When I mentioned it to his doctor she looked at me like I had two heads – said it was VERY unlikely that the PPI was causing that.
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. I am so lost.

February 11, 2013 at 6:44 pm #71649hellbenntKeymasterI’m no doctor…but, I have been here (on this board) to close to ten years now & haven’t heard anything like what you’re describing?
Me, I’d put the baby back on prevacid at the proper dose & form – what form *was* it? solutabs? if so, my guess is the aspertame in them?
I’d read through:
Prevacid 101:
scroll to the last page of this post, (it’s actually also about other PPIs like prilosec, too)
and I’d also read through;
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8288&PN=1″>Zantac dosing- my/other’s question (has axid & pepcid doses, too):

hang in there!
(don’t know why the links are coming out so wonky! sorry!)

February 12, 2013 at 2:38 am #71652AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry about your little one. I don’t really have an answer to your question but I do know that some babies sweat a lot. My first baby was not a sweaty baby and still doesn’t sweat much. But my second child sweats a LOT in general! He has a little problem with having low blood sugar and is much more sweaty when that happens. But I doubt that is your little one’s problem.
All our children have digestive problems and my boys suffered badly from reflux as babies so here is a link to something I wrote up about what we found to help. You may find it of use. https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=16038
I hope you soon find the answer and help for your little guy!
February 13, 2013 at 9:26 am #71656AnonymousInactiveWell we took him off the Prevacid Friday night. We had a horrendous weekend, despite giving him Zantac so he wouldn’t be off all meds completely.
We put him back on the Prevacid Monday night because he was so miserable. It is now Wednesday morning and the sweating and vomiting has returned full force. No doubt in my mind now that it’s the Prevacid. 🙁
February 13, 2013 at 1:50 pm #71657hellbenntKeymasterwhat FORM???
a liquid from the pharmacy??a solutab??it’s most likely the ingredients WITH it…please let me know so I can help…February 13, 2013 at 3:03 pm #71658AnonymousInactiveSolutab.
February 13, 2013 at 7:15 pm #71659hellbenntKeymasterit’s most likely the aspertame or other ingredients in the solutab.
I would think it’s aspartame…
You can still give prevacid (& I would/did), it just needs to be in a different form.
PLEASE read Prevacid 101, where you can learn about all the different ways to give a PPI (capsule, with “the products,’ etc)
