InactiveWe had our return GI visit yesterday. My daughter was on 3mg x 2 daily & it wasn’t working. Dr now only wants her on 7.5mg once a day. We discussed the Marcikids dosage and she won’t budge. I don’t know what to do as the closest GI outside this practice is a 2.5 hr drive away.

KeymasterI am not a doctor. I cannot tell you what to do. I CAN tell you to research all you can and then YOU decide what to do.
3mg two times a day sounds like it was a liquid called a compound, made by the pharmacy? these are KNOWN not to be stable (not to work). So now you have the solutab. You must give it on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later. You might want to TRY giving it two times a day and seeing what happens. If it helps things, then you’ll know your baby could use a dose increase…April 18, 2011 at 7:32 pm #68184Anonymous
InactiveThanks Laura, yes she was on a compound. I’ve given her the solutab at night for the past 3 nights,Followed by a little bit of formula. She puts up quite a fight with the formula feedings. My only problem is if I use two doses of the solutab, i will run out of meds & the Dr will know I’ve not followed her wishes & she was very strict in her dosage. I did ask for twice daily but she said it was too much for her. She’s really pushing the formula thing & thinks that will help us eliminate the meds. Pretty hard to push formula when my daughter will just skip the feed rather than drink the stuff. I honestly don’t blame her, Nutramagen does stink lol.

Keymasterthere’s always Over the Counter (OTC) prevacid in case you run out…just saying…but you have to do what you know to be best!!

InactiveI can’t help you with the dosing but if you want to do Nutramigen I can share my experience. My son wouldn’t drink it either so we mix it with breastmilk. We started with half formula and half BM and have been gradually increasing the proportion of formula. He seems to be getting used to it. Good luck!

InactiveIs he taking less at each feed? I’ve been giving breastmilk a few times a day but need to stop. I just panic when she refuses to eat, she’s not the biggest child to start off with lol.

Keymasterwhy do you need to stop breastfeeding?
I just want you to know that you do NOT have to quit breastfeeding if you don’t want to.you can alter your diet to make your breastmilk like formula. It’s called the TED Total Elimination Diet and it’s not so bad, it’s only two weeks – I did it ๐of course if you want/need to do formula & quit breastfeeding, then of course you have support for that, too!whatever you decide!
everything takes two weeks so if you were to switch you’d have to give it two weeks and then there are no guarantees- if you’re breastfeeding, you can also modify/alter your diet to make your own milk into an elemental formula of sorts- this is called the TED- total elimination diet-this also takes two weeks and then you start adding foods in to see what you CAN eat.here’s some more light reading for you

InactiveI’ve tried diet elimination & my daughter is still reacting to my milk. My chiropractor suggested raw goats milk but I’m not too sure about that.

KeymasterThe TED gets your milk down to ‘the basics.’ With something like this, you need to eliminate EVERYTHING and then, from there, you add things back in.
When eliminating milk protein it’s ALL of it- including ‘hidden’ dairy such as dairy IN things like whey, casein, etc. The TED is good because it’s not just eliminating one thing than another, etc. You eat a very basic diet for two weeks and then you add things back in…Read here:April 20, 2011 at 12:52 pm #68206Anonymous
InactiveI basically ate banana, toast, chicken, brown rice & potato for nearly a month but no change in Quinns discomfort ๐

Keymasterwell sometimes babies need meds & diet. also, read Erin’s Sticky. You use the gas and diapers to judge diet…also discomfort, but again, meds can help w/ this, too…
as for the diet you selected…well, it wasn’t the TED…it sounds very basic and plain, but the ‘actual’ TED is tried & tested…
