InactiveIt’s funny because I was soooo worried about Sarah not getting enough fluid when we dropped all of her bottles…and now it seems I have the opposite problem. The girl drinks ALL THE TIME! I have taught her the sign for “drink” and she is constantly asking for something to drink and will chug it down like she’s been living in the desert!?! She gets about 30 ounces of liquid per day in 4 sippy cups. At least 2 of them are milk, sometimes 3. What’s the deal? Is this a problem? I’m not looking for something else to be worried about, because I have enough other things to keep me busy…
I was just expecting her to have more like 16oz a day. She gets a sippy of milk first thing in the morning, a sippy at morning snack time, a sippy with her afternoon snack and then a sippy of milk before bed. I have tried ONLY giving her a sippy during her meals but she will ask for one and then throw a fit if I “ignore” her.
I don’t think her appetite has been affected by all the fluid intake. She still eats 3 meals and 2 snacks.
I have tried only putting 1 or 2 ounces of water in a sippy (b/c she prefers a little juice with it or milk) and sometimes that works and sometimes she drinks it all and wants more, or keeps bugging me until I put something else in it.
Am I being neurotic? Is this something to talk to her doctor about? DH drinks a LOT of fluid throughout the day…but it still seems weird. Any thoughts?
TIA!

InactiveIf she’s drinking milk or water I wouldn’t worry about it. If it’s juice I’d try to dilute it and wean her from it. Juice will add too many empty calories to her diet and may effect her teeth. (I guess milk does too but as long as your brushing it’s ok).
I always give my kids milk with meals and water the rest of the day. Myles loves his cup too. He wants it constantly but he only gets water in it. Maybe try giving her very diluted juice and keep diluting it more and more until she begins to accept just plain water. Or offer her a cup of water with an ice cube in it. My kids always liked that.We wouldn’t be moms if we didn’t have something to worry about!

InactiveNo, i think its fine too. I wouldnt give her too much milk.. maybe like not more then 20 ounces a day. It could upset her stomach a bit too.. thats what happened to my neice..she was getting 24 ounces of milk.. and then yogurt too..and the ped said to lower it..and she stopped having so much gas/loose stools. But shane still has 3 bottles a day of milk too.. about 20-24..but most of it is rice milk.. not whole milk. But Christine is right about not too much juice, which you probably know. Water is really good for them.. I wish shane drank more water.
And it seems like Sarah is doing soo well with that much milk! GREAT news!!August 10, 2007 at 8:16 pm #40858hellbennt
KeymasterI’m like christine- milk with meals and a sippy of water out & about and available at all times…I have a sippy of water out when Ari is playing, etc…so he can just get to it when he sees it & is reminded ‘oh yeah, I’d like a sip now’ LOL
