Hi all, remember me?
Seth is still having reflux symptoms and we were unable to wean him off of the Prevacid so we are going for a scope next Friday. The GI wants to do this to rule out anything we may have missed and wants to make sure we are treating the correct disease and not just a symptom (reflux) of something else. He mentioned allergies and Eosinophilic Esophagitis (had to look the spelling of that one up!).He may also do a ph study depending on what he sees. Thankfully though, this will be done by inserting a capsule that transmits signals to a monitoring box that he will wear for 48 hrs. instead of the nose probe. It is amazing what technology can do!Anyways, I am starting to get nervous especially about stopping the Prevacid a few days before. So, just posting for support!March 2, 2010 at 7:00 pm #65970AnonymousInactiveGood luck Tiffany. Just wondering why he wants him to wean off the prevacid before. Why not stay on it during the scope. If you want a great forum about EE, check out www. parent-2-parent.com/forum . I used to post on there, and there was a great EE forum. So great that they can do the capsule! Very high tech. I hope that everything goes well. Keep us posted.
March 2, 2010 at 10:45 pm #65976AnonymousInactiveGood Luck with everything. Have been wondering how you were doing. Keep us posted.
March 3, 2010 at 9:37 am #65981AnonymousInactiveThanks gals, I will definitely let you know how it goes.
Lori, I am not sure but maybe we have to stop the Prevacid just in case he does go ahead with the ph study? I plan on calling his nurse to clarify our pre procedure instructions so I will ask then. Thanks too for the link!March 3, 2010 at 3:41 pm #65983AnonymousInactiveoh no! so sorry you are STILL dealing with all of this! Hugs to you and you know you can come here for the BEST support! it is just an amazing group here!!
March 4, 2010 at 1:02 pm #65986AnonymousInactiveHi Tiffany!
That is awesome that they can scope him like that! Is it sort of like a pill cam? I wonder if our future GI will be able to do something like that for Landen. We still have not seen them. We’ve had to cxl 2x due to ENT issues. Landen will be getting his pre-op on the 10th and his 2nd set of ear tubes and an adenoidectomy on the 15th of this month. ahhh! It never ends!Praying for Seth and hoping they can figure out what’s going on! I’ll be interested in hearing his results. (((hugs)))March 4, 2010 at 2:01 pm #65987AnonymousInactiveHi and thanks, Anne Marie!
oh Jill, I will be keeping Landen in my thoughts as well. Please keep us posted! To answer your questions, the scope will be done the same way but the ph study will be with the capsule. It is called the Bravo pH monitor if you want to google it. It really is quite high tech. He will only do the Bravo if nothing obvious is seen with the scope. Some good news, I called the GI’s nurse yesterday and I can give him Mylanta up until the night before the procedure (but nothing during the ph study) so at least we can give him something if he does flare up from pulling the Prevacid.Like I said, I am still nervous and anxious but on the other hand hopeful that maybe we can finally figure out what is going on with him. Thanks again everyone!March 4, 2010 at 7:49 pm #65988hellbenntKeymasterHi Tiffany!
wishing you guys lots of luck!
looking forward to hearing/learning more!
~lauraMarch 12, 2010 at 3:47 pm #66026AnonymousInactiveDid you get your results yet? I hope everything went okay. We are having this proceedure next week.
March 13, 2010 at 10:05 am #66032AnonymousInactiveHi everyone, we did have the scope yesterday and it was a tiring day but wasn’t as bad as I feared. Overall, the GI said he looked good with the exception of some redness on his stomach lining which is indicative of reflux so he was not too surprised at that.
We are doing the Bravo ph study this weekend. It is really kind of neat- We have to record when Seth eats and lies down and we can see what his ph levels are on the monitor. Not sure how to really interpret them though!I’ll post again when we get the biospy results from the scope and the ph results back.Mom2Seth2010-03-13 10:10:23
March 15, 2010 at 2:44 pm #66053AnonymousInactivejust seeing this now! So glad it went better than expected! hoping the ph probe give you guys the answers you need to get him comfortable. Curious if this then makes him a good candidate for fundo, or is that not an option? Just feel so bad for him to still be uncomfortable!
