InactiveHello everyone, I posted my initial info. on the “Introduce Yourself” thread, but would like to follow-up here with a medication question.
My son, Dylan, had a Gastric Emptying Scan and the Ped GI called Monday and said Dylan does have DGE (normal range of empyting was 20-60 min., Dylan was 109 min.) and suggested Reglan, but when I said I would rather not use that, he said Dylan could be put on Erythromycin 1ml 4x daily, but it might not work. Well, we are going to give it a shot.Have any of you used Erythromycin for DGE with any success?
He also had his allergy tests yesterday and we are awaiting those results. The nurse took 4 vials of blood from the little guy. He cried but was such a trooper. Gosh, my little man has been through a lot already in his short little life.
We are on Nutramigen 100% now and not noticing any difference (yet, but fingers crossed and trying to have patience).
He is also on Baby Jaro Dophilus (probiotic) that his Ped. thinks will help him, at least to counter the effects of the Erythromycin.
Anyway – just wondering if any of you can tell me of your experience with Erythromycin…
ETA: I did do a “search” here and found a few posts about it, but am hoping more of you might post to this thread.Thank you!!!Lisala 2007-08-08 11:46:31 August 8, 2007 at 6:13 pm #40721Anonymous
InactiveHi Lisa,
Bryce has been on Erythromycin for almost a year now, and it has truly been our “miracle cure” for him. He has DGE as well and has always vomited a LOT. We briefly tried Reglan when he was first diagnosed at 6 wks (I didn’t know about the side effects at the time). It worked for awhile, but then stopped helping. When Bryce was 9 months old his vomiting got so out of control that he was not gaining weight at all. We started him on Erythromycin at that time and his vomiting decreased dramatically. He finally started gaining weight well. He’s been on it ever since and has done very well with it!I hope the Erythro. makes as much of a difference with Dylan as it has with Bryce! Good luck with everything! 🙂

InactiveHeather, thank you for your reply! When I did my search, I saw your previous posts about how it helped Bryce. I am glad to read he had such a favorable reponse to it. Did you notice any side effects? I’ve read that diarrhea and nausea are some of the side effects. I started Dylan on some probiotics last night (Baby Jarro Dolphilus) in hopes to promote a healthier intestinal system and counter some of the side effects of the meds.
Thanks again for your reply!August 8, 2007 at 7:18 pm #40725Anonymous
InactiveLisa,
We’ve been lucky, and Bryce hasn’t had any side effects from the Erythromycin. I know a lot of kids have tummy cramps with it, especially at first. Most times their systems adjust to the med after a couple of weeks, but a few just can’t handle it at all. I sure hope that Dylan is lucky as well and has no side effects! 🙂 We give Bryce a probiotic every day as well. I figure it can’t hurt where he’s getting an antibiotic everyday!August 8, 2007 at 7:51 pm #40726hellbennt
Keymaster[I just wanted to say something about allergy testing- there are a lot of opinions- most say that allergy testing under the age of I’m not sure what- 3 i think – is unreliable- false negatives, false positives- I won’t go into it here- not that I even could go into it bcse it’s truly not in my area of expertise-but anyway, definitely something to research- do a search here on the site & post about, etc…now back to topic!
