feeding my little Baby!! Seems to pass motions

Hi,

My baby girl is 2 weeks and we giving her both Enfamil A+ and mothers milk. I have few things in mind:

1) As soon as we give our baby Enfamil A+ she passes motion is no
time and after mothers milk she passes motion after some time. We give
her 30ml water and 1 spoon of Enfamil.

2) She does get mothers milk, but I wonder if she gets sufficient
of it. At time while feeding she sleeps ans wakes up after nearly 2
hours, and at times even feeding her mothers milk for 45 mins she still
cries. As we give her Enfamil she passes motion.

3) How long should we give mothers milk, is it when ever the baby is hungry and cries.

4) How should I know if mothers milk is enough for the baby ????

Please can you help me in answering the above asked questions. I’m a new mom and i get too upset. !!!

At this age I would put her to the breast as often as she seems to want/need it. It’s very important @ this stage to feed ‘on demand’ for a couple of reasons: 1) to make sure your milk supply remains where it should be & gets established well & 2) to ensure proper weight gain – they gain SO much the 1st months.

If your baby is gaining well (on average 1/2 lb/wk until 3 months old) then mother’s milk is doing its job :).

Edited to add: if she’s still crying after 45min @ the breast it could most certainly due to reflux or intestinal pain (from MSPI). Do you have any concerns about either of those?erinntx2009-01-07 20:13:58

the nursing for 45 minutes seems like maybe there’s a latch problem? or baby is nursing for comfort? that’s why I ask about a lactation consultant to check that baby is nursing efficiently/correctly

here, baby is weighed on scale before feeding then after to see how much baby takes in…also you can measure by wet diapers…a certain amount in 24hrs- I forget how many…
