I baked salmon last night and fed Brian several small pieces, and he liked it. I wonder what fish is safe and what fish is not sefe for a 13 month old to eat?
February 21, 2006 at 12:31 pm #2102AnonymousInactiveI’ve recently did some research on fish since I love it and so do my kids. Fish typically is a really healthy food for anyone to eat. However, nowdays, because of mercury contamination, you have to be careful about what types of fish you give to your family. This really stinks because certain fish are really good for growing brains because of the high levels of omaga 3 fats. I’ve posted a couple links below so you can check out what fish is ok, and which ones should be avoided.

I donĀ“t know about fish for Brian because he is older, but we have been given the OK to give Matthew fish and the doctor has told us to stick to frozen white fish for now. On the frozen because of the parasite… what is it toxoplasmosis maybe? Cannot remember. On the white because we are going to try and give it to matthew for dinner (except first few days) because when he was eating and taking meat it was really bothering his stomach at night.
I know things are really different in US vs Spain… so do not pay much attention to the frozen part, cause i never heard this anywhere else on this board.
March 12, 2006 at 8:45 am #3626hellbenntKeymasterat the supermarket, the fish is labled- I’ve seen it- it’s labled ‘farmed’ (which you don’t want) and ‘wild’
it’s also labled frozen- I don’t see any problem with frozen or canned fish…just as long as it’s ‘wild’

Thais – The frozen fish does make a lot of sense, I brough some cod fillet last week, when I prepared it, I saw a parasite on the fish, it was so disgusting. Does frozen fish have parasite egg it in? If I buy fresh fish and then frozen it myself, is it the same as I buy the frozen fish in the market? What is the white part mean? I pan fried some fish for Brian today, I think the fish is very soft, but he still gag on it, how do you prepare fish for Matthew? I saw your update post, glad to hear that you have a good time with your Dh, hope Matthew feels better soon. It is so good that you have family help to go through this tough time, my parents do not care, and think that Brian’s feeding problem is my fault.

So sorry to hear about your parents — i am really lucky with my family and i am getting a lot of support right now, which i think is what is saving me from going crazy.
i sometimes wish that some of those people that are so fast to judge us and claim it is our fault end up with a kid that does not eat… then i think about it and realise that the kids would suffer…there are tons of people like that
White fish ie cod, sole etc etc; maybe that is what we call it here in Spain? The others are more meaty like tuna etc. For Matthew, we are trying to find something to give him at night instead of veal, which seems to upset his stomach at night, so the doctor said that the softest fish were the white ones.
On the frozen — he told us to buy frozen fish which seems to be different from buying fresh and then freezing. Not sure why it does not make a difference. I can ask him next tuesday, which is when i have to go back and see him.
We still have not prepared the fish but i can tell you the way we prepare the meat, which will be the same way. We pan fry the meat with tons of olive oil; separetely we boil some potatoes and carrots; put everything in the grinder and add some salt and more olive oil. Sometimes we make it really thin, other times, we leave small little pieces, so i am sure you can just leave small chunks for him?
