My poor baby…At 2 weeks old he was diagnosed with reflux and its been a rollercoaster ride ever since. It didnt seem to bad at first then at about 5 weeks old is when it started going downhill. He started screaming and arching back during a feeding, vomitting, frequent hiccups, not sleeping at all during the day, and just overall fussiness. After switching formulas a few times we ended up on alimentum and started him on zantac .6 twice daily. That worked well for about 10-12 days and then it all started back up again so the pediatrician upped his does to .8ml twice daily and told me to add 1-2 teaspoons of rice cereal to his formula which I did and that worked for about another 10-12 days. Now we are back to square one- fussy at the bottle, vomitting, not sleeping well, etc. He has vomitted 3 times within 24 hours and his doctors office to me to give him some pedialyte to make sre he’s not dehydrated and report back to them tomorro. I called today to make an apt to see a G.I. doc and I’m still waiting a call back with an appt time which who knows how long it will take them to see us. I’m really concerned, I cant stand to see him in pain
. I dont know what else to do, I feel so helpless.angela

InactiveHave you thought about trying some mylanta until you can get into the gi. I think Laura says about 1ml and her son is a little younger so that might be a good starting spot. He probably has already grown out of his dose of zantac. Zegerid is the easiest ppi to give babies that young. It works great and it is so easy to mix. Most babies seem to like it. The way he spits up they may need to do a delayed gastric empting test. I would continue with the rice cereal just because he spits up so much. You will probably get tired of hearing this but it gets better. You have to find the right meds first. I am sorry you are going thru this. My son is 18 months old and is doing great. Don’t get me wrong we still have some issues because he had to be put on Neocate formula but he is now on regular formula and he is so happy. Its been a long trip but I love being around him and spending all my time with him. I can’t say the same for when we first started all of this.

InactiveHi Angela! Welcome, we have very similar stories. As the others have said, really push for a PPI, but most importantly, push for the correct dose. You can visit http://www.MARCI-kids.com for all the info you need to educate both yourself and your Dr. on PPI’s and dosing. My son Evan started Zegerid at 8 weeks and has been a very happy baby ever since. We also used Alimentum and had great success. Hang in there, being an advocate for George is the best thing you can do!

InactiveHello and welcome.
So many of us have been where you are right now. It is so sad to see your baby in pain.
I’ve been through this reflux nightmare twice, so I sure know how hard it is. Like the others have said, Zantac is rarely helpful for more than a short period of time. A good dose of a PPI like Prevacid or Zegerid would likely help him. Once my little guy was on the appropriate dose of Prevacid things turned around for him.
I had to print and fax the marci-kids info to my son’s doctor and keep calling her about how miserable he was before she finally prescribed an adequate dose. Hang in there and push for a good PPI dose.
Good luck and glad you found us.
