Gas pains/change in BMs

Over the past couple of days, Seth is eating table foods better than ever BUT now he is having a hard time with gas- he is waking up crying in pain and we can tell he is having a hard time trying to push it out. He doesn’t seem constipated, in fact, his BMs are more frequent and looser than before. The BMs also have some undigested food. So, does this mean he is maybe not ready for so much table food? We are only doing MSPI safe things so it is not dairy causing the problems. What can we give to help? We did put Mylanta in his bedtime bottle last night but he still woke up with the bad gas this morning.

That is the exact age that Hailey started having issues with loose BM’s and undigested food. She still has the same stools at 18 months. Her Ped GI said that eventually they will get better as her digestive system matures. He wasn’t concerned about the undigested food at all. We are in the process of ruling out any other causes of the super loose, frequent BM’s. As far as gas, Hailey is still pretty gassy depending on what she eats but I don’t notice her having as much pain from gas as she had 6 months ago. You might try giving straight simethicone several times throughout the day (or whatever the dosing amount is) and see if it helps. Maybe being proactive for awhile instead of reactive will help with the pain.

Stacey, great minds must think alike (LOL!) – I bought some gas drops at the store this morning. Mylanta has always worked well in the past but since he has the loose stools I am hesitant to give him anything that may make them worse. Please keep me posted if you figure out what is causing Hailey’s loose BMs. Maybe it is just their system getting used to processing food. It will be interesting to see if her’s stop anytime soon.
