Hello!
DD is doing great on her RTF Alimentum which our insurance does not cover. We were recommended to try the Alimentum by a feeding specialist. Here is a quick history.
DD was born via c-section 5 wks early and was breech
They gave her antibiotics due to meconium at birth and fear of infection
DD went to NICU for low blood sugars right after birth, BS stabilized within 2 days
On day 4 of the NICU stay she was taking 60 ml feeds then developed thrush and had very green stools that were like runny pudding
She developed stopped eating more than 20 mls at a time and had to be gavage fed through a NG tube
She began projectile vomiting on Day 10 of her stay, started Prilosec on Day 12
She was in the NICU for 22 days and came home with the NG tube in place
We were frustrated at the vomiting and consulted a feeding specialist who suggested that we start probiotics and Alimentum.
We trialed powder Alimentum which she did not tolerate then went to the RTF which she does well with.
She thankfully has not ever had bloody or mucousy stools, she does reflux but not like she did when she had the tube in. It has been out for two weeks now. The specialist recommended the Alimentum because of her rough start and the fact that they switched her formulas in the hospital and upon discharge so much. About seven times total. She has been on the Alimentum the longest of anything.
Okay, sorry that was so long but now for the questions.
How do I tell if she has a true allergy? The pedi does not seem to think she does. He thinks her tummy just needs time to heal and regulate.
It seems like so many of the babies her have the allergies too, do refulx and allergies go hand in hand?
Thank you for reading this book.
