My son-15 mths- is gluten sensitive and needs to have some nutritional supplementing. I’m trying to avoid soy and milk as well, but willing to try them. The main thing is to stay away from gluten. Neocate is corn based which I happen to be allergic to, so I’m not sure that would be a good route. What else is there?
We’re due with another baby in Aug. If that one is sensitive to gluten as well, what infants formula is there? Nursing looks to be my only option for that?
have you tried Rice Milk for your 15 mo-old? We use Rice Dream rice milk and they make little milk boxes, like juice boxes, which the little kids seem to love to hold. Lucas loves it. It’s fortified with calcium and vit. D, as well. Avacados are great for putting on weight if he likes them.
For bfeeding, I’ve managed to do a dairy, soy and gluten free diet while nursing. It’s hard, but you really can do it.
I think it’s good to clarify that Rice Dream Rice Drink has:
“gluten from barley protein at less than 0.002%“
If your child suffers a life threatening allergy like some peanut allergies, any amount may be a dangerous. I wonder if any grain product can guarantee that it has less than 0.002% gluten unless the facility where it’s processed has never processed anything but pure gluten free products. I would think that less than two one-thousandths of one percentage is such a low low percentage that it might be considered as an option for mothers who are desperately looking for a safe calcium fortified drink for themselves and/or their child.
