I have been researching on this site for a while and just haven’t posted anything. I have a little boy who is 3 months and disagnosed with silent reflux, the doctor says he also either has an intolerance or allergy. I think he has mspi based on the problems with formula and gastrointestinal issues. He is on alimentum rtf now and it is working good. He can’t even tolerate the powder, I think because of the corn syrup. We were using the prilosec compound at 3.5 ml 2x a day but that was not working so I got tummy care max. Using this at the higher marci kids dosing he was able to get relief from his reflux. We also were using gelmix which helped his symptoms. The only problem is he started to become constipated, going 4 days without a bowel movement, when previously it was every day to every other day. He also has gas issues now. I stopped the gelmix and he seems to be doing much better but still has some gas and constipation I have been using milk of magnesia to help. I think it is the increased prilosec causing contipation and calcium carbonate in tummy care max causing gas. I saw a post about alkaline water and probiotics. I tried probiotics for over 5 days and they hurt his tummy so bad he was waking up all the time crying. Also I tried to alkaline water with alimentum powder and reduced his prolisec while doing this, he was able to have a bowel movement, but he cannot tolerate the powder and needs rtf so I don’t know how to give him the water. I need to know if the tummy care max can cause gas and if I can put mylicon in it or if there is another way to use prilosec otc without the calcium carbonate. Should I try belly buffers or possibly zegrid? My doctor gave me zantac to try and also prevaic solutabs, but I heard they contain lactose and I have not tried either of these yet. Thanks you for your help!

August 8, 2012 at 4:26 pm #70701AnonymousInactiveI looked up belly buffers and it has xanthamum gum in it like the gelmix that gave him gas. Also the prilosec constipated him. Should I try the prevacid or zantac? I tried digestive health which is what I am using. I was using a water from kangen waterat ph 8.5. Thanks for your help!
August 8, 2012 at 5:21 pm #70702hellbenntKeymasterprevacid worked for my son & he didn’t have constipation…but he didn’t have it from prilosec, either…you could try prevacid? unfortunately it is a lot of trial & error…
you can try mylicon w/ the ‘products’ (bellybuffers)
you can also try some mylanta cherry supreme.
Mylanta Cherry Supreme is the one variety of mylanta that does not contain aluminum. You actually can’t find it anymore, but you can find store brand equivalents. Try rite-aid, cvs brand, walmart, target, Bartell Drug (West coast), Dollar General, brand names: Geri-Care & Geri-Lanta Supreme, meijer, etc- just look for one that does not list aluminum in the ingredients. you can give 1ml up to 5 times a day- it’s safe, even for newborns. if you see loose stools back off.
you must space it 4hrs from the prilosec/prevacidAugust 8, 2012 at 5:41 pm #70703AnonymousInactiveOk I just have to figure which one to try next. My goal is to keep him having regular painless bowel movements. He just did and he’s so happy afterwards. I will keep you updated. Thanks!
August 8, 2012 at 5:57 pm #70704AnonymousInactiveThe reason I wondered about the alkaline water was because I wasn’t aware that it was available for purchase. But maybe you can buy it somewhere or else you or a friend has a machine that makes it.
Because my children never suffered ill effects from the Digestive Health I didn’t know much about it. But I have been looking into that more. Here is a copy of a post that I found on this site from several years ago.
“Both of my girls seemed to do worse when on probiotics. I was taking them for a while too so they would be passed on to McKenzie and I noticed they made me so bloated and gave me bad gas. Once I stopped them I was fine and McKenzie was actually better. It is funny…they made some things better and others worse.”
Reply…”Probiotics are funny that way. When you (or your lo) first start taking them, it seems like they are making you worse. What is happening is that the probiotic is killing off all of the icky yeast. I’m not sure of all the symptoms but I know one symptom is irritability. It kind of has to get worse for a little bit before it gets better. Hang in there! Here is some more info:

I am going to do some more research on this and will add it to my blog so that people will be aware that probiotics and enzymes can make symptoms worse.
August 9, 2012 at 5:15 pm #70725AnonymousInactiveThe local health store here has a machine and they sell the water. It might just be that it was to much for his tummy to handle. He is doing much better right now. I am going to try to wean off prilosec onto zantac and may try a probiotic in the future. The digestive health works great fo me though. Thanks for the info!Logan&LukesMom2012-08-09 17:16:10
