InactiveI’ve posted before about how fat I’ve become and can’t fit into a lot of my old clothes. Well, we have a wedding tomorrow and I looked at the mall last weekend and went to three stores on my lunch hour and can not find anything new that I wanted to wear.
So, please help me decide between two outfits I do have at home that fit: a beige linen suit (ruffled skirt, 3/4 sleeves) or a brown flowy skirt w/ peach accents, peach v-neck sweater and pearls. I’m afraid I’ll look like I am going to a business meeting in the suit but don’t know if the skirt/sweater is dressy enough. If it matters, it is a day wedding with ceremony at church and reception at an estate type house place that does weddings Help!!!!Mom2Seth 2007-09-14 14:59:04 September 14, 2007 at 1:44 pm #42660Anonymous
InactiveI would pick the linen suit just from your description. It is IN a church and then at an estate, so I don’t think you will feel overdressed. The other thing is, what will you feel most comfortable in? Linen would be a bit stiffer than the flowy skirt and maybe would let you hide a bit in it. That is what I do! I hide under my clothes now!
Either way, they will be glad you came – not talking about what you wore. Have a great time!September 14, 2007 at 2:02 pm #42663Anonymous
InactiveCan we see pictures?

I think I like the sound of the brown and peach set better from your description. I’m sure either one would work great.

InactiveThanks. So far, one vote for each- anyone have a tiebreaker?
LOL Heather, pics of the clothes or of me????

InactiveI think I like the peach outfit too, but pics of the outfits with or without you in them would be helpful. I just went looking for stuff for a wedding next weekend as well…. Not fitting into the clothes we already own really stinks. I am feeling your pain as well.

InactiveWell, either would work.
Pics of you wearing the clothes or the clothes alone.September 14, 2007 at 5:12 pm #42683Anonymous
InactiveI like the peach skirt idea too. I think suits make people look older and more business like you said. But maybe that’s the style of wedding?? I always go with the people who will be there and what I think they will wear.

KeymasterI vote for brown- it’s very ‘in’ LOL! (hey maybe it’s ‘out!’ that’s how out of it I am
)to make you feel any better: I’ve actually been losing weight and in the course if the past 3 days, 2 people have commented that ‘oh I see you haven’t lost any of your baby weight’ and 1 thought I was expecting. SHEESH!!! and here I am thinking I look GOOD
…so anyway, just feel comfortable & forget the meanies (& hope that they keep any thoughts about your weight to THEMSELVES!!!)enjoy the wedding!!!September 14, 2007 at 8:06 pm #42694Anonymous
InactiveI vote for skirt.. always i would say the skirt/shirt combo over a suit.. but thats just me
… i would have to see them to tell more. I would think either would be fine dress wise.. but would love to see pics of which one is more “in” .September 14, 2007 at 9:43 pm #42708Anonymous
InactiveSuits always seem stuffy to me but this is coming from someone who has NEVER owned one or worn one!!
The peach outfit sounds cuter and girlier I think….I’m laughing to myself thinking that I’m giving advice on an outfit I’ve never seen….LOL….maybe I’m just laughing b/c I’m exhausted….
ANYWAY, I lost a bunch of weight on TED and whaddya know, I went to the doctor last week b/c I had a major sore throat and it’s ALL BACk!! Ugh. Clothes shopping is usually such a downer for me. Especially now with my my post-pregnant body. My tummy looks like a brain from all the stretch marks!!!…is that TMI?….

InactiveI vote for the skirt/shirt.
I will tell you that I went to a co-workers wedding last October and there were people wearing WIND SUITS and several men wearing BASEBALL CAPS and BUDWEISER t-shirts! It was a full Catholic mass too! I would be so embarrassed if that was my family. Whatever outfit you choose, I’m sure you will look classy and nice!!! (I totally understand the “no nice clothes” problem too!)

Inactivelaura– that’s so mean, you have such a great attitude! I think I would have punched someone if they told me I looked like I hadn’t lost my baby weight! Haven’t ya ever heard of keeping it to yourself!
claire– too funny the tummy looking like a brain!September 15, 2007 at 2:31 pm #42747Anonymous
Inactiveyeah, I say skirt and sweater too. But I do think that pics are needed because the suit sounds really cute too… Which of the two do you feel more comfortable wearing? Which has the better shoes to wear with it? That would help me decide.

InactiveI also vote for the skirt/shirt combo. But you should also know that I have NO fashion sense whatsoever these days, soo….
Have fun at the wedding.September 17, 2007 at 9:44 am #42795Anonymous
InactiveThanks guys, I ended up wearing the suit skirt with a cream top and the pearls just because it coordinated better with what DH and DS were wearing and wanted to get a good family pic (didn’t happen though) and because like one poster said, had better shoes for that outfit. One of the caterers even complimented me on my skirt. Either would have worked – some women had on pants (but no windsuits or Budweiser shirts LOL
!!)… I don’t know why I worry about these things. I guess I am just more self conscious now. Laura, don’t feel bad, when I got my nails done last week, I was holding my stomach and the girl said “baby?!”. Needless to say she was very embarrassed when I said no. I did go for my annual check up last week too and I have gained 10 lbs., since last year! I am only 8 lbs. away from my highest pregnancy weight… The nurse said your metabolism really slows the closer you get to 40 and of course I am not near as active as I used to be pre Seth but I am going to get my ‘rear into gear’ now and get this weight off.
Anyway, as always, thank you all again!! It was fun hearing everyone’s opinions.
