KeymasterThis mama is desperate & has sent me a private message…
I would like others to please help as well
she writesthis message:I see that you have a lot of knowledge so here are a bunch of questions maybe you can help.My daughter has silent reflux and dlayed gastric emptying, she was on axid and it worked for a month then she started arching and taking 2 ounces at a feed and sleeping incessantly; we have been to three ped gi; this last one put us on zegerid. It worked first and then it was too hard on the stomach, she was vomiting so now we are starting prevacid solutabs, 15 mg twice a day, she is 7 mo and is 17 pounds mind you she was 9 at birth so has gained very little!!!Any ideas for how long the prevacid will take before it kicks in? Also, she is on carafate 1 tsp 4 times a day.RebeccaAugust 5, 2007 at 7:38 pm #40542Anonymous
Inactive30 mgs of Prevacid is what finally turned things around for my little guy. Hopefully it will for your son as well. I’d give it two weeks and see what happens. Also it’s possible that 3 10mg doses would be better. Dr. Phillips at http://www.marci-kids.com does recommend three doses a day for infants because they metabolize these meds so fast. Also be sure to give the solutabs on an empty stomach and then follow it up with a feeding 30 minutes later.
I don’t know much about Carafate but I wonder if it has to be spaced a few hours apart from the Prevacid. Hopefully someone else knows and will post.
Hang in there. It will get better. Prevacid has worked miracles for lots of babies on this board.

InactiveHi there. I’m sorry to hear about your little one. I hope that the prevacid is the answer. Make sure to give it as Christine says, on an empty stomach and then with a meal 30 minutes later. The carafate can’t be given near the prevacid, and needs to be given quite far from the prevacid… I can’t remember if it’s 2 or 4 hours apart. Hang in there. Good luck.

InactiveWhen Adriana started the Prevacid the first 2 and a half weeks were bad and I was wondering if it was working, then all of a sudden she started eating better and sleeping better. You might want to try breaking one of the tabs in half (i use a pill cutter) and giving 7.5mg in the morning, 7.5 mg in the afternoon, and 15mg at night. If you need help getting her to take the solutabs I could give you some suggestions. Good luck!!
