Hey All,

Sorry I posted here but I need help ASAP. Can you mix the mylanta cherry supreme with 20mg packets of Zegerid? I know marcikids reccommends the 40mgs, but the pharmacy can’t get those untill Monday and in the meantime our G.I gave us the 20mg packets to try. If anybody knows I would LOVE some help with this!!!! If it’s not possible, we’ll have to make due with our ineffective prevacid solutabs(ineffective for Kate anyway. I don’t mean to say that the solutabs don’t work on anybody, just not for her it seems). Thanks for anybody who responds!!! Kate’s having a rough time again so I’m in that favorite desperate place of mine

Thanks Laura

My problem is that on the website it suggests using the mylant with the 40mg packets but we have the 20. I’m wondering if I still can mix the mylanta with the 20mg packets. It doesn’t say(or I’m missing it)on the marci-kids website. Any idea?

You don’t have to mix mylanta with the 20mg packets. What dose is she supposed to be on with the 40mg packets? I could try to help you figure out how to prepare that dose with the 20s until you can get the 40s if you need me to.

hey, the awesome thing about the 20 mg packs is that they dont require the extra buffer from the mylanta. when using the 40 mg packets, my baby got horrible runs from the myalnta. mylanta gives lots of babies the runs! we had to switch to tums but it was such a pita and i wish that i had the 20 mg packets all along!

Hey Claire,

We used the 20 mg. packs for a little while before switching too. And we used the Mylanta with it! Ben HATED the taste of the Zegerid alone, so using the Mylanta was the only way he would take it. I just used as little as I could get away with since you don’t really have to have it with the 20 mg. packs. We just used it to help with the taste.

I’m pretty sure I talked to Dr. Phillips about this, and he said it was fine.

Hope the Zegerid works well for you!!!

p.s. the reason we ended up switching to the 40 mg. packs was that the Mylanta and the extra buffer in the 20 mg. packs gave Ben some tummy cramps. Too much Mylanta still does this for him, so we use Mylanta for one of his doses and Tums for the other two.

Thanks Everybody,

I’m so frustrated!!! I was on a high thinking of not timing the prevacid anymore and I had everything totally calculated and then BAM!!! The pharmacy is out of the 40mg packets. Talk about raining on my happy parade. If I use mylanta with the 2omg, how much do I use? My G.I was hesitant to even give us the zegerid because he said it is so often unsuccessful with kiddos because of the taste. It’s funny, he’s really awesome and seems very proactive and actually humored me reading over the marcikids research and went online while we were there to check out the website. He said he actually had dinner with the doc behind the research recently. Cool, right? I was so relieved that he seemed so competent after all the horror stories on this website about G.Is that have NO clue what they’re talking about.Anyway, thanks for any advice you have. Oh, and how much Tums would I give her if I used that? She’s 13 and a half pounds. Do I igve it to her if she has cramps or as the buffer with the 40 packets? Sorry, this is just SO confusing to me

hey…no i used the tums instead of the mylanta. it has calcium carbonate which prevented the 40 mg packets from degrading in the stomach. i would be kind of glad to have the 20 mg packets, you dont have to deal with the instability issues of the 40 mg packets 🙂 with the 40 mg packets you have to add an equal amount of ML of either mylanta or tums dissolved, so its a lot to get down ( this is if you are giving less than 3.5 ml of the zegerid at once). its kind of an annoying hassle, IMHO.

Also, sorry for all the questions, what do you mix it in? A cup? Do you keep itlike that in the fridge? Pardon my ignorance, really, I’m so new at this whole medication thing(I will give the solutabs that. They’re a cinch to use besides the INCREDIBLE hassle of timeing them with meals!)and TOTALLY insecure that I’m going to do it wrong. Maybe I’m paranoid because for the first THREE weeks Kate was terribly in pain, our previous ped advised me to administer the med incorrectly. I wasted three weeks Thanks again all who are walking me through this!

Marci-kids suggests that you mix the Zegerid in a large syringe (I think a 20 ml) and then you squirt individual doses into smaller syringes when it’s time to dose your baby. This is mainly to prevent losing any of the medication. I know a few moms on the board have mixed in little containers instead; like a rubbermaid container with a tight fitting lid.

You can order the larger syringes at the Medicinne Shoppe (they were able to get them for me), or some people have gotten them at Veterinary clinics.

I think you add the mylanta or tums right before you dose.

Claire,

I only switched to the Tums because of his tummy not handling the Mylanta well. The Mylanta is much easier to deal with though.

We used 1/2 a Tums Smooth Dissolve tablet dissolved in about 1/2 teaspoon of water. Then I would just draw it up into the syringe. Watch for the ingredients on the Tums.. Some of them contain milk. I’m not sure if you are still avoiding that or not.

Also, if you are only adding the Mylanta or Tums for taste (since you are using the 20 mg. packs, I don’t think you need to add that much.. just whatever you think will help her get it down.

Thanks Everybody!!!

I really hope the zegerid works for us!! I have to say though what a relief it is not to time the med with meals. That has been so exhausting. It’s really comforting to know that she’s getting the full effect of the med. every time. Now we just need a higher dose but one thing at a time right? I’ve been mixing the 20mg packets with just a teensy bit of mylanta to help with taste but we’ll get the 40mg packets on Monday. HUGE thankyou to all of you who held my hand trying to fihure this craziness out. You all are so amazing and I’m so thankful for you!!!

Claire,

I emailed MARCI and Dr. Phillips emailed me back with how to give the correct dosage and mixture for Maggie and guess what he said if we did it Maggie would be better in 2 days.
