InactiveLori,
Myles just has a short fuse, really short. He has toddler like tantrums already, screams bloody murder because I wipe his nose, or take something away from him. A few days ago I made the big mistake of giving him a little bowl of puffies in his carseat and he screamed with complete abandon every time he spilled them or finished them up. And when he starts screaming he doesn’t stop. You can’t console him. The only way he stops screaming is if I put him in his pack and play and walk away for a few minutes. My girls were not like this at this age….so I worry that it’s over the top for a 14 month old. And he’s been doing this for months already.
Funny about the “on / off” switch. My girls (especially Liza) will say, “mommy, please make him stop” when Myles is screaming.

InactiveChristine, Hailey does that too. Honestly. I really wouldn’t worry about it. Both my kids have gone bezerk when I’ve wiped their noses. I’ve always thought it’s a sensory thing. I’ve started with Hailey singing a song “If you’re happy and you know it clean your nose…” and she has gotten into it and now yesterday I actually caught her with a Kleenex wiping her nose (trying to, I should say). Also if she has a toy and then you take it away, she just screams inconsolably with huge tears, and she won’t stop unless she’s distracted with something else. I thought it was the age. Sounds normal to me, just like he knows what he wants and doesn’t want. Good luck.

Inactiveaww ty guys, Austin knows they’re all evil (kidding-lol). If my sister in law had brought along her son. things would be better. Jamie told him all about a fight that 2 of his brother’s are in about money (I know could that BE more inaproprate to tell a 7 year old???), but he found out exactly WHY you don’t tell kids these things (all came about b/c Aus asked why one brother never comes to family things) my MIL came over and Austin procceded to jabber on and on and on about the fight her sons were in. I can not WAIT til he starts up about it at the thanksgiving thing. We both told him not to mention it but he’s 7, don’t think he’ll be able to resist, and I’m not the idiot that told him so I told my husband if he says anything then he’s to blame (hubby) not Austin b/c it’s normal for a 7 year old to be curious about info their parent tells them..at any rate, I’m all geared up for that to happen, hubby thinks Austin will forget about it-LMAO the kid remembers what he had for lunch on a wed 3 years ago, he’ll definitly ask my brother in law about it.
-side note, I did tell him it’s not appropriate to mention things like that at family events….it’s going to be vERY interesting-LOL especially b/c Jamie expects the boys to SIT at the dinner table..after both of them have already eaten. This will be around 6 or 7..which is when Aidan goes to bed…therefore I am apointing him manager of the event while I go have a glass or 2 of wine and watch..Austin will already be all sugared up from desert from dinner with my family…think I’ll pack some m$m’s to give him an extra little boost before we go 😉

Inactive-aww poor Hailey, then again even thought they’re not crying the other little guys don’t look too thrilled to be in a picture either!
is it me or do a LOT of the little darlings on here seem to have short tempers?? Aidan got mad and started smacking me in the head with a toy (I was holding him) I took it away and said no, and he slapped me???? LOL then again it’s a good thing he can defend himself, he has a 2 year old cousin who regularly pushes him around, and a 7 year old brother who wrestles with him (literally I think Austin thinks he’s some sort of giant toy-LOL)

InactiveFamilies (sigh)… can’t live with ’em, can’t live without ’em.
Jill, sad thing is that she’s not crying b/c she doesn’t want to be in the picture. That was just her for the first 6 months (or more) of her life. But yes, I do think that your observation about tempers and frustration tolerance is interesting. I guess it’s harder to stay calm when you’re in pain.

InactiveOh Lori! That picture is just perfect! Isn’t it amazing how one photo can capture SO many emotions at once? I am realizing that I will just take a deep breath and let things happen. Yes, it is difficult having a “sensitive” child, but I do love her more than anything and it really shouldn’t matter what other people think. It is funny to maybe draw the conclusion that our reflux babies are all pretty hot tempered and sensitive…hmmmmm…
My inlaws decided to move out of state when Sarah was just 3 weeks old.
Grrrr. I am still pretty upset about it. FIL didn’t have to take a job that far away. They are nice people for the most part, but their effort in keeping relationships is laughable. I want Sarah to KNOW who they are and for them to be a big part of her life. They have come to visit probably 5 times since they left and it seems like every visit is filled with shrieking screams and fussiness by Sarah. She doesn’t know them and she’s NOT a cuddly baby to begin with so the visits never seem to go smoothly. I guess in the back of my head I feel like if Sarah isn’t the “perfect” grandchild, they won’t make the effort to come back and see her as often. It’s only a 3 hour drive, but it feels like pulling teeth sometimes to get them to visit. They put on a good front to everyone about how close they are to their kids and how much they love Sarah…but it’s all a show. They rarely call to check on her (or my husband for that matter) and I just feel there is no excuse. My FIL is a preacher of all things too. HA! How ironic!LONG STORY SHORT…they will be here for 3 days and so that is a big part of my stress. I know they will love Sarah no matter what…it just sucks they have to live so far away and be so weird about relationships.
Thank you ladies for sharing your family situations as well. It’s nice to know I’m not alone in feeling this way!
GOOD LUCK to everyone this holiday and Happy Thanksgiving! By the way, did you know the pilgrims only celebrated thanksgiving ONE year? They never did it again. One of my students asked me what year it started and we looked it up really quick and I thought that was an interesting tid-bit I never knew.

InactiveLauren,
I tried to PM you about your formula switch and it wouldn’t send because you’ve “exceeded your private message limit!” I’m off to bed but I’ll try again tomorrow.

InactiveI wouldn’t be surprised if Sarah senses some of their aloofness and “showiness” and that’s partly why she behaves the way she does around them. Babies are highly perceptive…
My in-laws are 7 hours away by car and it really did take some time for them and my children to develop a close relationship, but it did happen. My fil is a big teddy bear kind of guy so the kids warmed up to him much more quickly than they did to their nana who is a wonderful lady but very tense and anxious. It took much longer for the children to develop a relationship with her….but they did and they love both their nana and poppa very much…even though they only see them 4 times per year. (They usually stay with us for a week when they come to visit).
So, I know what you mean…I wanted my children to have a close and loving relationship with their grandparents, and over time as they grew closer it really made me happy. I hope one day Sarah just beams when she sees her grandparents.
It may not be this visit, but it will come with time.November 23, 2006 at 3:38 pm #18842Anonymous
InactiveI just wanted to update that I am one proud mama! Sarah has done GREAT at both Thanksgivings we have been to so far!! She was an angel last night and then again for lunch today.
I even had family today asking “Wow, is she this great all the time?” Ummm sure! wink wink!
She let anyone hold her and spent most of the time playing on the floor by herself entertaining everyone. Yay!!! (WHEW!!!!!!!!!!) Had to share!

Inactiveaww good for her! Aidan was great at our house, except for when his cousin nailed him in the face with a thomas the train flashlight, then about 5 mins later, body slammed him, but he’s 2 and about the same weight as Aidan so the “body slam” wasn’t as much of an issue as the flashlight thing.
Brother in laws house-Aidan freaked out everytime anyone of them tried to hold him. See, babies are very good judges of character ;). Then my moron 18 year old nephew proceded to tell Austin that the whole “reading thing” is stupid, and he should “ignore it and get a life instead”. He’s a senior in high school,Austin is SEVEN, I wanted to WRING his neck!!!!! At least the other nephew-who’s in JR college-told him not to listen and that his brother was an idiot!
Anyway, Happy thanksgiving everyone!!!!!!!
