We started Maggie on the zegerid last night. How long before we see an improvement? She had been on Prevacid but the last 2 days it was not given right. The GI dr. insisted she have it only once a day (7mg) and that was the maximum dose.

We are at the point that I think on Monday we are calling MARCI and seeing about apt for Maggie. I am so scared with her weight loss and how much pain she is in. I am not sure if they are able to call and consult with our drs here (our peds is open to it) or if we need to fly to Missouri but I am going to do everything in my power so my daughter does not suffer any more.

Generally Zegerid seems to work faster than Prevacid (at least from what I’ve read here). I would think that if her dose is adequte you should start to see some improvment in a week or less, but it still could take some time (a few weeks) to see big changes because she probably has some esophageal damage from being under medicated for so long. Poor sweetie.

I’d defiintely go and see Dr. Phillip’s team. I was close to making an appointment myself when things were so bad with Myles but then his doc finally allowed the higher dose and things turned around. It probably would be worth a try to see if Dr. P would call your doc first to save you the trip, though. I know he’s called other docs for moms on this board and was able to convince them to try his dosing.

Good luck. I hope you find relief for her soon. It’s so sad. Babies should not have to be in pain.

Our peditrician is totally on board with what Dr. Phillips says. I have brought her the research and she had no problem changing Maggie’s medication to zegerid. The GI doctor on the other hand, yikes but I am not ever dealing with her again.

I have emailed MARCI kids and will call on Monday. I am not sure if we need to be patient and wait to see if the Zegerid works or if we should just go to MARCI. I will ask them that on Monday. A week seems like forever when you have a hurting baby.

It seems like it was about a week or so for the Zegerid to really take effect for us. I know that sounds like forever, doesn’t it?

What dose is she on? Do you think it’s high enough? Are you giving it three times a day?

I emailed Dr. Phillips today not expecting a response anytime soon. I thought I would call MARCI on Monday but guess what Dr. Phillips he mailed back tonight on a saturday with the dosage and how to mix it with liquid tums and he said Maggie would be better in 2 days.
