InactiveLori – you mentioned that you give Hailey motrin 1/2 hour before feeding when she is teething, I want to give it to Brian too, so I would like to know do you give her before every feeding? How many days do you give it to her ? (according to the bottle, it can not be giving more that two days)
Thank you.

InactiveI actually haven’t done it for a while now because her defensiveness is so bad now that I can barely get a syringe near her face. So I like to save the syringe for when I really need it.
But when I was doing it, I gave it about 30 minutes before the feeding because it takes at least 30-40 minutes to really kick in. You can give it an hour before, probably even better. Since it lasts for 6-8 hours, you don’t need to give it before every feeding. You can give it for more than 2 days and not worry about it. I swear that when Sarah was really having issues with her seizures, we were giving her both motrin (actually we use the grape advil brand instead) and tylenol round the clock for weeks. (I know it’s not good, but my point is that nothing happened to her).
If the issue with the feeding is teething pain, you’ll know pretty quickly (after one dose probably) if the advil will do the trick. I guess if you’re asking this then there’s been no improvement? Good luck! It’s so frustrating!!!

InactiveLori – Brian is definitely teething, he eats a little better after he takes motrin, but I only give him once a day, it took a long time for his first molar to come in, so it is going to take a while this time too.
Social worker from EI said that I should get the book – “child of mine”, then I will know how little toddler need to eat and it has receipe in it. I would like to buy one, but book store around here don’t carry it, I need to order it online, I remember you have that book, do you think it is helpful to you in term of dealing with Hailey’s eating issue?

InactiveSharon ~ it took me awhile to get her to eat. Even after I dramatically decreased her formula she still didn’t want to eat. One thing I know that helps Emma is that I never restrain her. I don’t remember the last time I put her in a high chair and I never try to force her to eat anything. I try to have food sitting around and I will take bites of it and say how yummy it is. If the food is messy I take off all her clothes and my carpet needs replaced anyways so I just clean it the best I can. I let her play and she tries things on her time. At first she would look at it, then play with it, then taste and spit it out then eventually eating it. There are still a lot of foods she won’t even try. For hamburger, hot dog and bread I always cut it up in very small pieces and leave it on the end table for her to eat when she wants. I don’t think she has ever taken a bite off of a hamburger, I have always cut it up. I found that she was very interested in a fork, so I pick up a piece of hot dog (or hamburger) with the fork and play games with her and she takes it very well that way. Sometimes if she sees that I have taken my eyes off of her she will grab the fork and try to feed herself and has done it a few times, she has come so far. It has been a very long battle, and we have a long way to go but for me I had to have a lot of patient and with her she needed a lot of persistence. I wish you luck. My best advice is to make eating as much fun as possible and to never let him see your frustration!!!!
On the motrin, I give it usually twice a day with teething and I have for several months. It should help him a lot. It has made Emma’s teething so much easier. I give around 3ml’s each time. I couldn’t believe that I could give that much but the childrens hospital said it would be fine and I could give her up to 4ml’s twice a day
