How long is MSPI usually an issue? When I first stated researching it I got the impression it was only for the first few months, until their systems developed better.
Looking at the posts here it seems children are having issues well into their first year. Is this something I should expect to have to deal with for a while?
I have been wondering the same thing- I think they say it is usually gone by a year but we are still seeing signs of it with Seth at 15 months. I guess it just depends on the individual.
I had always heard 6-9 months old but this is not the case for us! Isaac is almost 10 months old and not able to tolerate milk. My ped said the oldest child he has treated with mspi was 3 years old.
Hailey’s MSPI was better by 18 months. She’s happily drinking tons of milk each and every day. It was a long road but we finally made it. I really do think it depends on the baby so most do challenges at 9, 12 and 15 months.
it’s something like most in the first year, even more by age 2 & 90-95% by age 4. some babies are diagnosed as mspi & later it is determined that it’s an allergy which they may or may not outgrow. in other words, just roll with it & hope for the best.
Our ped gi said that at 12 months we will try hidden dairy and then go from there. She expects him to do great without any issues but I also thought it should be gone by 6 mths when in fact this was when we really started getting him the help he needed.
I have found that drs just tell you shorter amounts of time so you won’t loose it– jonah wasn’t mspi, but for his GERD we were told 3 months, then 6, then 9, then 12….
I think if we were told at birth that this nightmare was going to last an entire year that I would have been checked into a loony bin
yeah, most of the docs tell me she 3 mo, 6 mo, 9 mo, 12 mo………. she’s 11 mo old & still mspi. honestly at this point i am assuming that this is going to last for a long long time for my dd. i wish the docs would have been truthfully about how long this will last from the get go. for me i wanted to check in to the looney bin when she kept failing & failing to be able to tollerate even the smallest amts of milk or soy.
