InactiveThat’s good to know, because I can’t tell if I’m giving Dagney too much, either. Of course, she’s basically refusing to eat more than 4 ounces per bottle now during the day (her bedtime one she finishes, and usually the morning one is good too), so I guess I could give her more and it should be fine.
Christine, what affect did the sweet potatoes have on Myles again? I can’t tell if they’re bothering Dagney or not, she’s just a bit cranky now all afternoon, but I think she’s may just be hungry and holding out for spoon feedings!

InactiveThe only negative effect that I noticed from sweet potatoes with Myles was that if I gave them to him everyday he got constipated. If I limited to several times a week he did fine.

InactiveAt that age Alana was getting 3 x solids (at least 2 tbsp at each sitting) and 4 x bottles (maybe about 6 ounces each). Of course she is on the chunky side but her reflux was controlled so it defiantely wasn’t for comfort.
IKWYM about questioning every little thing and if it is related to reflux…we have all been there

InactiveMy son, 23 lbs at 6 months, is now almost 7 months. He never, ever turns away from solids. I, too, am worried about how much I’m giving him. The ped. gastro. said not to give cereal, just orange vegetables (as he’s MPI and always constipated) until our next visit which is at approx. 8 months of age. But, my son, who nurses 4x a day, gets 1 bottle a day (last feed of day – usually about 6 oz), and has 2 solid feeds, would eat 2 stage 2 (i.e. 7.5 oz.) at each solid feed if I let him. I tend to limit him to 1 and 1/2 stage 2s. I wish I could remember what my first son was eating at this stage, but I can’t and it was less than 2 years ago. How sad. Anyway, I don’t think you’re giving too much solids, at all. Good luck.

InactiveAlana is a keep eating kind of girl. I have discovered though if I stop to soon she will grizzle and demand. But then if I stop a little later she won’t. So I use the grizzle test I suppose…grizzle more food…no grizzle stop. When she just seems to keep eating when offered but is not grizzly I often end her meal with some type of finger food (i have found some dry biscuits with no soy or milk for eg) I let her play with this and it seems to satisfy her. Maybe you could try this. She also does banana, sultanas, cheerios as finger food.

InactiveI thought about the finger food too. I think he would love it, but I just wondered if he might be too young yet? It is so sad, but I too can’t remember what my daughter was doing at this age.
Anyway, he still sits in his infant bouncy seat when I feed him, so the finger food is out for a bit longer. He can sit up fairly well, but tends to slide down in the high chair! There are straps I could use, I just can’t find them from where they were stored 3 years ago!

InactiveI would let him lead the pace. Once babies can swallow and do solids you can transition pretty quickly to mash and soft small dissolvable finger foods (thats the info I have gotton anyhow).
Alana started with mash at about 7 months and finger food about the same time (not a lot though). Perhaps you could offer it and see how he goes. If he can pick up toys and put them in his mouth then he is probably going to do OK with holding it.
We did small thin slices of cantelope today and Alana had a dairy free hot cross bun at daycare (until she tasted some mixed peel and spat it out
just like her mum would).April 5, 2007 at 3:56 pm #29641hellbennt
Keymasterjonah, my refluxer, was breastfed & ate solids like a piggie
!! I went with the ‘he knows when to stop’ approach & it worked well for us
. seriously though, as a baby he went through what christine describes- jars of food plus being breastfed!now ari, my non refluxer, he’s a NON-eater
! go figure! It is so foreign for me!! he refuses to be spoon fed (I keep trying to sneak a spoonfull in here & there, as he dives down to eat his cheerios
) and he doesn’t have the hand-eye coordination to really self-feed yet- so the chair and the floor (& him!) are a MESS
…he does manage to get something into his mouth, but no where even CLOSe to the volume that jonah ate!I really like this ‘philosophy’/approach (it’s child-led solids, don’t let the ‘weaning’ fool ya
