Inactivehow do I give prevacid to 3-mos-olds/ I tried it in a bottle and cut the nipples. Lots of white beads were left in the bottle/nipple though. Plus, I don’t want them to confuse it with a feeding.

InactiveDid you ever get an answer to this? Is your prevacid the solutabs — sounds that way (if not, I would highly recommend them). I use a syringe. I put the pill in the syringe and suck up some water, shake it and then put the syringe in her cheek, way back in her mouth….go slowly so the baby doesn’t choke or spit the stuff out…and keep sucking up water and giving it to him/her until the beads are gone. My sister in law just puts the solutab right into her son’s cheek and it dissolves but my daughter always kind of spit it out…but you could try it.

Inactivethanks. we have the packet, with much bigger beads. We can switch to the solutab though – I was just trying not to since we just paid for this kind.

InactiveHmmm…I have never used the packets…maybe next time try to get the solutabs. In the meantime, I know people mix it into applesauce…but for a 3 month old, i’m just not sure.
Have you searched on this site for what other people have said about administering?

InactiveEmma was 3-4 months when I tried the Prevacid packets. We did a syringe and even then the beads would get stuck in the tip. Finally when I mixed it up I left it a thicker consistency and spoon fed it to her. At first it was hard but I kept doing it and she learned pretty fast to open and swollow. It worked great and it gives them really good practice.

Keymasterfrom my welcome/intro there’s a link called ‘prevacid 101’ and from there there’s a link of tips about how to administer the packets (I think?
should be if there isn’t huh?)July 4, 2006 at 6:23 am #11028Anonymous
InactiveHave you tried “y” cut nipples and cut the triangles off? That’s what we did and there were no beads left.

InactiveWE tried the solutabs this morning and it was even worse than the bottles. I dissolved half the tab in a teaspoon of water, drew it up into a syrange and slowly gave it to them. All the medicine stuck the black rubber part of the syringe or stayed in the tip. I kept drawing in more water, shaking it, but none came out. This isn’t working and I feel so depressed. It’s all a mess. The boys hated the whole thing too.

InactiveWhen I give my son his solutab I dissolve it in a small medicine cup, holding the cup on an angle so the beads stay in one place. Then I use a MEDICINE DROPPER/BULB SYRINGE (not a syringe with a plunger). I’ve never had a problem with the beads sticking.
Since the dropper is small (1 ml) it takes a few times of sucking up the prevacid and water from the medicine cup, but it works great because I am only squirting about 1 ml into his mouth at a time, so he doesn’t gag, choke or spit it out. It usually takes two to three times to get it all, and if there are any beads left in the cup I add a little more water and suck it up again.
The medicine dropper I am using is a small one; like the kind you get with an infant’s Tylenol bottle or a bottle of Mylicon drops, or baby vitamins. If you have any of these items in the house you can maybe wash the little the dropper/syringe that comes with it and try that. You can also buy little medicine droppers at the pharmacy.
I hope that helps. The syringe method never worked well for us either.

InactiveWe used to put the solutab on a baby spoon with just a drop or two of
water. It would start to dissolve enough so that Zach would take
one spoonful and get all his medicine, we started this when he was 6
weeks old. He loved it that way and it wasn’t a fight. In
fact, everytime I came towards him with a spoon, he would open wide –
he must have like the flavor!July 11, 2006 at 5:36 pm #11362Anonymous
InactiveI tried the packets that are mixed with 2 tblsp of water and it was a complete diaster!!!! Half of the granules were stuck in the syringe and Aidan spit out most of it. We switched to a compounded formula of Prevacid. The Medicine Shoppe (pharmacy) compounded it for us…it’s more expensive, but was worth the peace of mind that he was getting the proper dose, he ENJOYED taking it (tropical friut flavor) and it was easy for me to administer to him. I saw that you tried the SoluTabs…if those aren’t working, this may be worth shot! It worked for us…Good Luck!!!
