InactiveAriella turned one yesterday (yay!) and she weighs around 22 lbs. I want to turn her car seat facing forward but do know that the newest recommendation says not earlier than 30 lbs. Grr. Anyone did it sooner? She screams bloody murder every time we put her in the car seat. Toys, mirrors, nothing helps to keep her entertained unless she sees us. For this reason I’ve been riding in the back this whole year when DH is driving (even then she screams). I think it’s the idea of being strapped in that she’s not too fond of. Anyway, going back to my question. Did you do it before your child reached 30 lb mark?

InactiveYes, I did.
I turned Sarah around before 30 pounds. I know, tsk tsk, but it has made our car riding experience a LITTLE better. Hope that helps. September 25, 2007 at 7:52 pm #43321Anonymous
InactiveI did with Claire, but that was a few years ago. I’m trying to hold out on Ben, but boy am I tempted !

InactiveAlex is still rear facing. Of course, she’s also only 19 pounds, so I’m really not all that tempted to switch her. She has recently started screaming every time we put her in the seat, but I think she just hates being forced to stay in one place. We’re pretty fortunate that Kaelyn provides a decent distraction for her most of the time (as long as she’s not in a funk!) So… I’m trying to hold out for the 2 year mark. With Kaelyn, I gave in to pressure from dh and mil and turned her at 18 months.

Inactiveyes, I turned Hailey at 15 months and certainly nowhere near 30lbs! We had to, she hated sitting rear facing and screamed the whole time we were in the car. If we waited for 30lbs we’d still be waiting… probably until over age 3!

KeymasterI am a pretty ‘into’ keeping a baby rear facing for as long as the seat allows…just one of my ‘things…’

InactiveAlana was turned around at 8 kilos. The recco in Aus is between 8 and 9. I know it is safer rear facing but we had one of those ones who hated it as well.

InactiveBoth girls were turned around at 12 months none of which were close to 30 lbs, they were both around 20 lbs, they hated rear facing and were much happier forward facing.

InactiveWell… I already turned Adriana
. I had the same problemn where she would cry like crazy if she couldn’t see us, and I rode in the backseat too. But, I had to go places without my DH and she would cry and puke and choke so I kinda needed to. And things are much better now, but I really worry and would have prefered to keep her rearfacing!September 26, 2007 at 8:48 pm #43376Anonymous
InactiveI turned shane around at one year as well.. he was just 20 pounds. It has made driving soooo much easier!!

InactiveWe were the naughty parents that turned both boys at 1. Dylan was right at 20 lbs, but Carter was closer to 25.
I can’t imagine them backwards either!!! Dylan is 40 lbs now, so he is really safe, but Carter is still at 28 lbs and he would be really mad! They do say that the longer they are backwards, the safer it is, though, so it is definitely what you are comfortable with…..September 27, 2007 at 9:25 pm #43425Anonymous
InactiveI turned both of my boys before 30 lbs. I thought it was 20 lb or a year. I felt it was safer for all of us to have them not screaming. It was very hard to drive when they were screaming their heads off. Neither of my boys have quite crys either. People even comment on it all the time. I’m hopeing for singers. Those loud voices have to be for something good.

InactiveI turned my daughter around at 1 yr because I thought I had to. I turned my son around at about 15 months (had been too lazy to reposition the seat) and still didn’t know about the idea of extended rear facing. After just 1-2 days with him forward-facing, I started researching trying to see IF I could turn him back around. (That’s when I learned of the new line of thought.) He drove me NUTS because he wants everything with intense fervor. He spent his whole car rides making his awful gutteral “I want that” sound with his arm stretched out as far as he could reach. From what I could tell, he wanted the steering wheel! So, he’s 19 mths now, about 28 lbs, and is back to being rear-facing. I think he’ll stay that way until his vocabulary improves…! 🙂
