Hi Ladies,
I just wanted to lighten the mood lately… especially since it has been raining non stop at my house for the last 24hrs to continue for probably another 24hrs.
Anyway I went to my OB today for my 30-31 wk follow up (I’ll be 31 wks on the 14th – Saturday) and I am already measuring at 35wks! I measured ahead with Cooper but I also gained a ton of weight (well 55lbs) and this time I have only gained 15 so far….I have an ultrasound on the 25th to assess size/growth/fluid etc but I am freaking out… what I will I measure at my next visit… I was hanging at the top of where I needed to be until this visit… but with Cooper I was measuring 44wks when he was 39wks and I had him 3 days later… if I am already 4 1/2 wks ahead now what will I be if I make it to 39 wks… measuring at 49!?! Sorry I am hoping to make some laughs as I do find this very funny… scary but funny at the same time b/c last time Cooper was big and I had extra amniotic fluid.. I am hoping this go round it is just extra amniotic fluid but I guess in my heart I am fearing another almost 10lb baby!
November 11, 2009 at 4:27 pm #64522AnonymousInactiveBeth,
I know it’s not funny but your title makes me laugh :).
First of all: good for you for only gaining 15lbs so far this time – that’s awesome!!! (I’ve gained diff’t amounts w/ all the kiddos but I end at the same weight every time so I guess my body has its own plans-lol).
I wouldn’t freak out just yet… are they ‘measuring’ w/ ultrasound? or just tape measure/feeling. Do they seem concerned? I know that Cooper measured ‘big’ & was fairly big but in general, the ultrasound (& tape measure) measurements have been off for both my kids so far. They all said they would be 2lbs more than they were @ birth.
Anyway, don’t worry too much & it’s good they’re keeping an eye on it.. & if you DO have to have her ‘early’ remember that you are already 31 wks & anything beyond this has such great success preemie rates. (fwiw, I was born @ 30 wks).
Hang in there 🙂
November 11, 2009 at 4:37 pm #64524hellbenntKeymasterwow- how much did Cooper weigh? did you have a c/s?
my sister is tiny, like 5″2 and her baby was 8.5lbs and she was HUGE, lol, it looked like she swallowed a watermelon- she actually was torpedo-shaped!
she wound up w/ a c/s.November 11, 2009 at 5:12 pm #64526AnonymousInactiveErin he is only measuring with the tape measure for now, but I will have another ultrasound in 2wks… I had a big jump with Cooper but I think I was like 32 or 33 wks before it happened and again I wasn’t surprised I put on a ton of weight with him. Laura Cooper was 9lbs 11oz and he was 4 days early I can only imagine what those 4 days would have done with him weight wise! Erin also with Cooper I had 3 ultrasounds after we found out he was a boy and the last one 3 days before he was born estimated him at 8lbs 11oz so they were actually 1 lb shy of what he was…
Big babies run on both sides of our family. My SIL’s daughter was 9lbs 14oz but she was a week overdue.
OH and yes you better believe I had a c-section with Cooper and probably will again this time depending on what I find out on the 25th… I’ll let you guys know.
November 12, 2009 at 10:16 pm #64548AnonymousInactiveKeep us updated!! That’s interesting that the ultrasound UNDERestimated. I’ve always heard the opposite… but either way, the point is that it’s not that accurate-lol.
ETA: the ultrasound for Cooper is what I mean.erinntx2009-11-12 22:16:50
November 12, 2009 at 10:37 pm #64549AnonymousInactiveWow! make sure you are his agent and take a HUGE cut! I still drive the boys by my retirement home on the water weekly and remind them to get good jobs when they are grown ups! So happy for you that you are nearing the end!!
November 13, 2009 at 12:27 am #64550AnonymousInactiveI had excess fluid with both of my boys. Ds #1 was 8 lbs 8 oz and Ds#2 was 9 lbs. I am only 5’4″ so you can just imagine how huge my belly was compared to the rest of me LOL. I had a c-section with ds#2 but not ds#1..and let me just say my recovery with the c-section was a piece of cake compared to ds#1 recovery.
Hopefully your baby will be about the same or less that Cooper. I know with excesss fluid and larger babies you get lots of pressure and pain towards the end….and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone!November 13, 2009 at 8:46 pm #64553AnonymousInactiveLOL Beth! I’ll join the big babies club with you! At my 32 weeks ultrasound, many of her measurements (head circumference, belly, legs etc…) were all measuring 35-36 weeks. They told me she was in the 97th percentile and would be a projected 9-11 pounds. At my 36 week ultrasound they said she weighed 6lb13oz already and was still on track to be 9-11lbs! I guess I’ll know soon enough!
Needless to say…I only bought one small package of the “newborn” size diapers! LOL!November 13, 2009 at 10:25 pm #64554AnonymousInactiveAmy I never bought newborn diapers for Cooper and right now I am only buying size 1… And I am telling people not to buy us any newborn clothes… if they end up being big then so be it! You are in the home stretch now… I’ll post on the 25th about my ultrasound results so you will have to check back… and of course you have to let us know how everything goes with you! I’ll be thinking about you lots on the 23rd and hoping all goes well.
November 14, 2009 at 7:47 am #64555AnonymousInactiveThat’s so funny! For what it’s worth, I was HUGE with Sarah. At 36 weeks they told me that she was already probably about 7 lbs, expecting her to much more in the last 4 weeks. They said that she also had a large head and hands and feet. I had an ultrasound, and that’s when I got a shock- that she was big and breech- bum down. Now I went home expecting a c-section. But that week a few days later, I saw my whole stomach rotate with the most uncomfortable thing ever. I had another ultrasound- head down now, still saying very large baby. I was induced 2 days past my due date b/c they said that she was so big and I was a beached whale, could hardly get up anymore. When they broke my water, no water came out, said that she was probably really big, or water had broken and i didn’t know?! When she was born, she was scrawny and 6lbs on the nose. I was like huh?! Her head and feet were big, and she was long, but a skinny little sucker. Now she’s 6 and the size of a 9 year old… totally off the chart.
November 25, 2009 at 2:48 pm #64711AnonymousInactiveWell I think it is safe to say that I will indeed be having a linebacker probably sooner rather than later.
I had an ultrasound today and she is already estimated at 5lbs 14oz, looked in my chart for what Cooper was about this time and at 31wks and 2 days he was estimated at 4lbs 4oz (I am currently 32wks and 3 days so only 8 days different!) And I have “abundant” amniotic fluid this go round, which looks like it may be more than last time too! Bright side is I have only gained 15.5lbs so far, last time I was probably 40lbs or more by now… We are working on setting up my c-section, but they can’t do it any earlier than 7 days before my due date unless of course she decides she is ready before then. I”ll keep you posted, her “adjusted” age is in the 36wk range which makes her in the 98%ile for her true age… I guess I just grow em big!
December 11, 2009 at 11:15 pm #65066AnonymousInactiveSo as some of you already know my c-section is set for Jan 13th unless she comes sooner. I go back to the doctor next Friday afternoon and I will have another ultrasound before I see the doc that day, which will be nice since my mom will be in town and come with me. As of yesterday I was measuring 38wks (I will actually be 35 wks tomorrow). I had a dream Monday night that I was 5cm dilated so he checked me and well I’m not at all! But am 50% effaced.. so I sort of hope she comes before my scheduled date. Should know more next week after the ultrasound, this will be #5 so far… but I think this will be the last. Just wanted to give a quick update.
