I was here a year ago or so. My adoptive daughter who is now almost 17 months old was having really bad silent reflux with milk/soy protein intolerance. We tried zantac, prevacid and finally ended up on Nexium for the reflux which changed her life. She was a completely different baby in just a few weeks. She wasn’t able to just switch to milk at 12 months either. We’ve had to move slowly switching from the Alimentum. So now she’s up to 3 oz of lactose free milk with 5 oz of Alimentum. We up the milk by an oz every month. It’s progress and we aren’t having setbacks in the last 2 months. I see the end of her GI specialist visits by Feburary. It’s good stuff.
In the meantime, we recently adopted her little brother (full biological sibling). The only difference is this time his bmom did cocaine during pregnancy. We’re not seeing any major effects from that (and he had no withdrawal), but he’s hitting all the reflux milestones my daughter hit only faster. So at 2 months, we’re ready for the specialist but it takes a month to get in. He has issues with milk but not soy, so we didn’t have to take him all the way to alimentum (thank goodness).
So, I’m just stopping by to give an update as we start down the road again. Hopefully we’ll get him relief faster than with his sister.
In the meantime, I’ve been refreshing my memory on prevacid. And for anyone just starting the process, know that it does get better. My daughter is proof. There is life after reflux. And it’s good.
