hi there!
it’s hard…
this is something I sent to my friend’s dh when jonah was a baby:
hi randy,
i’m not sure how many bottles a day you’re giving Brandon, I would guess just one? Jonah just gets one a day from John, in the middle of the night. when you feed him, mom should not be in the room.
we use playtex bottles & we use the slow flow latex nipple. it is ok to experiment with different bottles & nipples; we did but ended up w/ what we started with…i’m not sure what you’re using, but i’m sure it’s fine if brandon seems to be latching on it correctly & drinking slowly. apparently, it’s almost impossible to slow these little guys down, but try your best:)
To quote john “try to take a breather when you can” meaning when Brandon slows down for a second, try pulling the bottle out of his mouth & burp him. jonah gets very upset when John does this & john winds up just giving him back the bottle again…john says jonah doesn’t seem to slow down until the very end of the bottle & then he will sometimes allow john to remove the bottle…
Please make sure brandon is latching on the bottle nipple the way he would latch on the breast! his mouth should go around the whole base, not just the nipple & his lower lip should be curled down. John and Jonah got a little lazy and I’m almost positive that’s how I wound up w/ mastitis! I think he wasn’t latching onto the bottle correctly & then didn’t latch onto my breast correctly & then I got a little blister on my nipple & then it must have allowed bacteria into my breast, causing an infection, which is mastitis, which is extremely painful & no fun!
Kelly.mom is a really good resource. i look everything up there.
