Im new to the site and have been reading alot on what has been posted. My 2 month old was diagnosed with silent reflux and sanifers syndrome at weeks. Zantac did nothing and so she was started on prevacid suspension about 4 weeks ago. She did fairly well but i’m wondering if hr dosage is correct. Shes been put on .5 ml once a day. The bottle says its 3mg/ml and she weighs 13 or so lbs.
we see the doctor tomorrow and so wanted to discuss this. shes been getting worse again over the last few days.
thank you!
February 20, 2013 at 2:19 pm #71700hellbenntKeymasterI am not a medical professional. YOU are the Mama & YOU must research all you can to be the best advocate for your baby! You’ve found a great place!this is VERY LOW. this is 1/2 of a ml and every 1 ml has3mgs of medicine in it. this means she’s getting 1.5mgs of medicine a day.please read all you can, so that you understand a bit as to what you will be TELLING your doctor what it is that your baby needs. This is Prevacid 101 (go to last post on the page):This is the dosing chart:you say your baby weighs 13lbs.for a baby less than 3 months old the dose of prevacid is 1.5 to 1.75mgsof prevacid per kilothis dose is calculated and then given THREE TIMES a dayso. your baby weighs 5.9 kilosI’ll calculate at 1.5 (the lowest in the range of dosing)5.9 x 1.5 = 8.85 mgs in a dose (that’s just one dose of three!)so you take 8.85 and multiply that by 38.85 x 3 = 26.55 mgs a dayI would NOT get it compounded (made into a liquid at the pharmacy) UNLESS you tell them EXACTLY how to make it…(you need to get your dr to write it out EXACTLY for the pharmacist)How to ASK for PPIs to be Compounded (condensed version):
