InactiveMy daughter is two months old now. For the last month she has been on Enfamil Gentlease. She also is on Zantac for reflux twice a day. If we miss a dose she is super fussy and super gassy. So I think she needs it just not sure she is on the right dose or medicine. Switching to the enfamil did seem to help at first. Now there are feedings when she does fine eats, burps, and no crying. Other feedings are terrible. She eats and screams, finally burps and still screams. Usually she will fall asleep finally. She is still gassy and I do give her the mylicon and sometimes the gripe water. I just dont know what I can do to help her not hurt. Then comes the issue of sleeping. From day one she did not want to sleep. She HATES to be laid on her back. She tolerated on her side at first. Now she hates that as well. If I put her on her side when she is good and asleep she wakes up in 30 mins. I mean I can time this! The only way she will sleep is now in her swing and on her stomach. On new years eve I think it was I stopped giving her the zantac to see if she really needed it. Well she slept so much the next two days and wasnt fussy. Seemed liked she was better without it. Then she was still acting like her belly hurt with the wiggling and screaming right after she ate so my Mom talked me into trying soy. We have only been on that a few days and it is a little bit better. She has spit up a few times though and just a second ago she spit up some and it was chunky. So I dont know what to do. She does have a doctors appt this thrusday. Do you think she has reflux? Here is the list I am taking with me to the doctor of what she does.
Wakes up with nasal/throat congestion in morning or long nap
Some mornings will wake up so happy and then after a feeding she starts the fussiness
After taking her bottle she will scream, wiggly around, and draw her legs up.
She burps all day long and passes gas a lot
Fights her sleep alot
Strains a lot when she poops but the poop is not hard –did this on enfamil
Sometimes when she is acting hungry she will take the bottle but then fight with us during the feeding
On the Enfamil gentlease her stomach seemed to poke out at times
On Enfamil she was drinking 5 to 6 oz a feeding on isomil only 4oz at feeding
isomil started on nyd in afternoon
Just had a very hard stool after straining today

Keymastersounds like reflux to me, perhaps reflux exacerbated by diet…
any change you give, such as changing her formula, needs to be given a good two weeks to see if it helps.
the hard stool would concern me. if it continues, I might stop the soy and then go to something like nutrimigen or alimentum (and give this switch the full two weeks). I say this (trying alimentum or nutrimigen) bcse of the gas and the straining to poop and then when she does poop it’s soft (on the enfamil). so because of this (gas, strainging to poop & then it’s soft)and the fussiness after eating, I would tend to think it’s the milk formula. your mom isn’t wrong w/ suggesting soy, but a large percent of babies who cannot tolerate milk proteins cannot tolerate soy protein either (about 60%). this is called mspi (milk soy protein intolerance).
read here to learn more about MSPI:
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2697&PN=1&TPN=1as for the zantac, it is very weight sensitive and it’s my educated guess that there is room to increase the dose. it is a ‘safe’ medication and if you tell me how much she weighs, I can go through and calculate the highest dose she can have for her weight.
personally, I would not give the gripe water…but you’re the mama and if you think it helps well…
please read here, too:

InactiveOk so now Alli will be 3 months on the 22nd of this month! She has been on the Alimentum for two wks now and at first was doing GREAT! Now the last two days she has been fussy and when I am burping her she is drawing up her legs and crying. So what now? Pretty much all the other issues are better. She weighs 11lbs 10oz as of last wed at her 2 mo check up. The doctor wasnt much help when I said the zantac didnt seem to be helping she said just keep giving it to her??
