Hi everyone. This is my second reflux baby and as they are all different I need some advice. I used this site last time with my now 3-year old and it was a life saver.
My current 6 wk old has been through a lot already. Diagnosed with reflux and DGE at 4 wks- tried prevacid but that gave her pain and diarrheah, so we are now on zantac, 1.6 ml a day, split. We also discovered she must have an intolerance to milk protein because we recently switched to alimentum and she is a different baby as far as tummy troubles go.Well, until today. She is exhibiting reflux symptoms again (refusing to eat her entire bottle but crying and looking for food, just to push the bottle away), waking up out of a dead sleep in my arms and crying, etc. Well, today I noticed a few odd things…she was tilting her head to the right…really strongly…and was upset- She also seemed to “shiver” like 4 or 5 times while going to sleep. then, I noticed she woke up out of a dead sleep, eyes wide open, and put her right arm out a few times in a row…then she started crying after being calm for a few minutes. I got on these boards and realized that these might be sandifer’s symptoms due to her zantac probably not working anymore? The entire time she was looking like stuff was coming up into her mouth.I am so mad at myself that a part of me was thinking her reflux was under control because she wasn’t screaming all day…but, now i realize she can be having episodes and just because she has calm moments doesn’t mean her reflux is fine. I know zantac wears off quick. I am frankly scared about sandifer’s, but if I get her meds right this should resolve, right? What do you all think? I will probably up her zantac or put on pilosec and see if it helps? I welcome any advice or experience with this!May 15, 2010 at 7:27 pm #66349hellbenntKeymasterhow much does she weigh? I can help w/ zantac dose…
find her weight in kilos, here, and let me know:
http://www.sfca.co.uk/match/kilolbs.htmI don’t know how to tell you if it’s sandifer’s or not, but I can help you w/ the zantac dose…I can also suggest mylanta, too. this can be given w/ the zantac. there isn’t any children’s kind, it’s the adult kind and there is one variety that doesn’t contain any aluminum, it’s mylanta cherry supreme- it can be hard to find, so even look at all kinds of store brand mylanta equivalents making sure to look at all the ingredients and you will find one w/o any aluminum in it
give in 1ml increments, up to 5mls a day, and if you see loose stools, ‘just’ back off… -
