InactiveTherese, my sister’s name is Elana (pronounced Alana). It wasn’t a very popular name when we were growing up, but now it was ranked as one of the names to choose in the baby book we were looking at. The author called it this generation’s “Sarah”.

InactiveThanks ladies! It’s so hard to decide and these have all been good suggestions.
Anyone have an opinion on Sophie? Or a take on Ava…Eva (strong E) or maybe that’s too much like Ian…

Inactivecongrats!! I have been thinking about you a lot. Are you still taking probiotics? When did you guys take Ian of prevacid? I hope you are feeling better soon.

InactiveI like all of those names, Sophie, Ava or Eva. I think Sophie and Ava are gaining in popularity though, so if you like a less popular name you might find it too common as she gets older. Eva (with a long E) is pretty and less popular, at least for now. Have you checked out social security’s name site? It’s great because it gives you the popularity of whatever name you are considering for the last 10 years. I’ll see if I can find it for you.
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ Here it is. I hope that helps.

InactiveThanks Emily-yes, still taking probiotics and have added omega 3’s. Ian was able to tolerate Milk (whole as a drink) and went off prevacid at 15 months. It was truly miraculous considering how bad his reflux/allergy was. It was a long progression of weaning meds and adding in dairy very slowly. He even eats a ton now. Picky but has his favorites for sure.
We also spoke with everyone (mt. sinai allergy team, ped, gi, etc) and researched the probability of second refluxer and what we can do in pregnancy to prevent issues (I was obsessed). Allergy team said there is no research to say limiting diet in pregnancy helps at all and GI said probiotics may help. Ped said usually you don’t see two kids in one family to have it as severe as Ian. But who knows! I did post a the question on the neocate forum and had many people reply that they had second children with no issues so I do feel hopeful.
Christine-I know! I love Sophie and have checked out the ss site too. It’s funny because Sophia with an a is like number 11 where as Sophie which I much prefer is in the 100’s. Eva is really pretty to me but is Ian and Eva too much?? However, I do like not having to write a long name (hee) on all those forms at doctors.

InactiveWhat about Sophie Eva? Then you can use both. I think they’re both pretty.
BTW, great news about Ian being a GERD grad!! I just noticed!

InactiveNo, I don’t think Ian and Eva is too much at all. I like the name very much. I also like Sophie much better than Sophia. I thought of another name for you to consider. How about Ian and Ivy? Short. Pretty. Goes well with Ian.

InactiveCongrats. I think for preparing your oldest, books that talk about baby in mommy’s belly and bringing baby home work well. Also, letting him see other tiny babies and saying see that’s what is in mommy’s belly. They can’t fully understand, but I think it’s good to a least try to prepare them.
I like the names Eliza, Maleah, grace, and lyric. I have tons of girl names that I like, but can’t think of them right now.

InactiveCongratulations!!! I’m so interested in knowing where you got your info on what to do during pregnancy that will try to off-set having horrific reflux and food issues with baby #2. I’ve been very curious what kind of info is out there and where to find it?
I’m probably going to use this if I EVER have a daughter and that would mean having another child….so that’s a long way off (and my child has to sleep first, so you never know how long this could take!)…but I loved Ada. I know Ava is getting popular, but I think Ada is lesser known and I haven’t heard of anyone with that name. I actually had a dream while pregnant with Lucas that I had a daughter named Ada and after that I just loved it. Of course, dh thought it sounded hopelessly old-fashioned and wasn’t too hip on it– and the dream didn’t convince him like it did for me!! I also liked Zoe (another short one!) Phoebe (pronounced fee-bee, I think it’s always pronounced this way?) is cute, too. Reminds me a bit of Sophie. I also really liked Lucy and we have close friends who wanted a more formal name so they named their daughter Lucia (in italian it means light, I think?) and they are calling her Lucy. Another friend gave her daughter the middle name Quinn, which I had never heard of, or thought of for a girl, but I like it.
My sister went out on a limb and named her little girl Berkley. She’s been a teacher and school counselor for years and didn’t want anything that reminded her of past students, and had never had a Berkley. My great aunt who is 96 and very proper tells us that Berkley used to be a man’s name when she was a child and growing up (and my folks know of two men in their 60s now named Berkley). She was pretty scandalized by the whole thing and said that she hoped they would call the baby by the middle name, Michelle, because “at least that is a girl’s name!” I thought the whole thing was hilarious. They are calling the baby Berkley.
