Well Cooper has been fussy more than usual the last few days, I just thought it had to do with me doing too much lugging him around during the day and getting his schedule off. Well, this afternoon after a 2hr nap, he woke up screaming bloody murder and I could not calm him down. He was due to eat in about 30 minutes so I fed him, no luck he screamed as soon as we were done. So I decided to play detective. I washed my hands really good and stuck my finger in his mouth and ran it across his bottom gum and sure enough he screamed and I felt a little sharp something. So I put him on his changing table and opened his mouth and sure enough he has a tooth that is about to pop through. So I gave him 2 hylands teething tablets and he is a different baby. My question is how long does it take for the tooth to pop totally through? And how many months of fun do I have ahead of me?? Just when you think you’ve got the reflux thing under control… they start teething.

With my babies once the sharp part of the tooth breaks the gum, the worst part is over for that tooth. As for how many months, nobody really knows. They’re all different. Teeth usually do come in pairs though, so his next one will probably be days or maybe a week later.

There is one top tooth that still hasn’t broken all the way through. There is even a little blood and it looks red and swollen. He has been SO fussy this week. I haven’t tried the Hyland’s Teething Tablets, but I’ve heard they are great and am going to buy some TODAY
Hopefully Cooper will be feeling better soon!June 29, 2007 at 9:54 am #38262AnonymousInactiveTeething sucks! Myles is cutting his last four molars and he’s been up at 5 am every morning all week long and waking multiple times at night too. I forgot what it’s like to be so tired.
June 29, 2007 at 10:15 am #38266hellbenntKeymasterjonah was an eary teether too! but he did get it over with faster than most, lol!
hylands, benedryl on the gums, oral benedryl, all seem to help…June 29, 2007 at 10:33 am #38272AnonymousInactiveWow, four months!! I didn’t know babies could teeth that early! I’m a little scared now. Kate has her fists in her mouth ALL THE TIME!!! She roots around and gets really frustrated sometimes so I wonder if we’re not far behind you I hope they all come super fast so you get it over with! Poor babies. That’s really gotta hurt!

Caden has also been frantic with his fists in his mouth, drooling, chewing on things, etc. for a LONG time, but for some reason is just now teething at 8 months, so it can go on for a long time before they actually cut a toothHopefully Kate will cut hers early and be done early too – that would be wonderful! All of my boys have been after 6 months cutting teeth, although Caden is the latest at 8 months.June 29, 2007 at 3:03 pm #38291AnonymousInactiveI thought he was early with teething, but it is there and has pretty much broken through the gum… I can feel a sharp edge. He is much better today than yesterday. We gave him the teething tablets at 5:30pm last night, tylenol at 8:30p before bed and then I gave him 2 more tablets at 3am this morning when he was restless, I fed him 4oz as well just to be safe and he hasn’t had anything else since 3am and hasn’t been too fussy today. Did take a 2.5hr nap this a.m. which is unusual. Can teething make them sleep more? And can it make diaper rash worse? He has a bad one that I noticed yesterday and I have been using Boudreaux’s butt pasta and A&D mixed together and it isn’t really making it any better. I went and bought some Triple paste this afternoon, but we haven’t had a diaper change since I bought it. I hope it works that stuff isn’t cheap.

For diaper rash, we use Dr. Smith’s diaper ointment. It can be found at Walgreens or CVS. It works great for usJune 29, 2007 at 5:05 pm #38297AnonymousInactiveMy boys got diaper rashes with teething a lot of times… especially with molars. Well it sounds like you’re hopefully past the worst of it Beth! (until next time.) 😉
