Keymastergood grief Ari is 8months old & bald bald bald

good thing he can’t see these girls, as he’d have hair envy! at playgroup he grabs all the other babies’ hair (well Jonah’s too! and let’s not forget mine
)

InactiveLaura, don’t feel bad… Sarah was entirely bald until 7 months. Hailey is almost 2 and has a crew cut! It’s either that or she pulls it out until she’s bald.
And I do agree… what great hair Adriana has! I can’t believe she’s only 5 months old!

InactiveYes I love her hair. Its so fun! She pulls it when she is tired, but dosen’t play with it too much. Pretty soon I am sure she will be pull out her pony tails.
And it does make her look older.
She had tons of hair at birth. I’ll never forget trying to give birth for hours and everyone coming to peak at all the hair she had (all you could see was the top of her head). I was like “Just get her out!”

InactiveJenny, has she ever pulled her hair out? Hailey does this when she’s tired, or constipated, or in pain. She’s pulled it right out so that her entire left side was bald. I’ve been trying to find a solution.

InactiveNo she hasn’t pulled it out because I grab her hand away when she pulls. I have had a cousin and had a few counseling clients in the past with that problem. Some people try to put a glove on them so they can’t pull it. It’s like a really bad habit that you have to help them change. It’s like a soothing or coping mechanism for them. If they wear a glove and cannot pull their hair then they will find something else to soothe themselves eventually.
Good luck.

InactiveSort of different, but Dylan has this habit of putting his fingers in his mouth. It is really bad for his speech, etc… so we have started just putting things in his hands. A kleenex, a small ball, a pencil, etc.. anything that is handy, and if his hands are busy, they are out of his mouth. I guess that doesn’t work when he is in bed, (although I have to admit we have some AWFUL sleeping habits here now that crept up when we had an almost 4 year old. Can you say I was maniputlated???) so I do know what Dylan is doing when he is sleeping now…..
Anyway, it has been a very hard habit for us to break him of…

InactiveThanks. Lucky for us, we have both those habits- Hailey puts her fingers in her mouth and sucks them religiously, AND pulls her hair. We did the glove thing, but she wasn’t able to use her hands so she got really upset. That’s why we cut the hair short. But she still plays with it and tries to pull it. Now that she can’t, she’ll pull other people’s hair sometimes, and even looks for fallen out pieces of hair on the carpet that’s fallen out to twirl. She also lies down near the couch and twirls the little fibres under there. We got her a doll to play with that hair instead, but it hasn’t helped any- basically she just wants to twist hair and doesn’t care if it’s real or fake or whose it is.
Ann Marie, I also worry about the speech issue. Hailey already started out speech delayed b/c of her hearing loss, but she’s made great gains since the tubes, though she’s still behind as far as articulation goes. She always has her fingers in her mouth, so I’m sure it’s not helping any, but we haven’t been able to get her to stop.
Let me know if you figure anything out.

InactiveTying her hands behind her back
(OK I thought it was funny but I am a bit weird
)How about one of those stress balls that they squeeze. Alana already loves them…she might get focussed on squeezing (especially if mommy and daddy model it for her).

InactiveQuinn was born with lots of hair too. She was so late rolling and sitting up that it made its own crew cut and people always ask if I cut her hair like that. She looks like a mushroom head! Lots of curls on top, and short hair on the sides and back. Kinda funny. Her hair is really wiry on the back too.
QT: Quinn’s first name is Quinn, second is Tamara, and so we call her Q.T. or Q.T. pie. (cutie)
Quinny the pooh: Because she farts all the time.
And just plain Q.
