InactiveI was just curious how things were going for you? I hope much better.

InactiveMe too, Shelby. I have been thinking about Claire and wondering how things are going. How are you doing, Claire? Is the breastfeeding going any better? It might not for awhile…for us it didn’t significantly improve until Caden was 4 months old and then got better and better from there. I hope it happens sooner for you
Maybe with the right meds she will be nursing better soon!June 6, 2007 at 12:44 pm #35758Anonymous
InactiveHey girls,
Thanks for wondering about us. Sorry it’s been awhile but I’ve been mostly pulling my hair out. Ha,ha. Anyway I hope you all are doing well with your sweet little GERDlings! Here’s a quick update:
Kate is still gaining weight , yay! Her feeds are a little better so I’ll take it. She got her stool tested for the fourth time because I thought there might be blood in it but it was negative so hooray for that!!! Our only issue these days is the feeding trouble, and sometimes a little mucous and green poop. The ped, nurses, and some people from the MSPI board that I post at sometimes say that I shouldn’t worry about the poop so much since everything else seems a-okay. What do you think? I kind of think that’s true just because she is happy almost all the time. sleeps well, seems to be eating enough, and poops tops four times a day. Sorry to talk about poop but that seems to be my life these days as the poop inspector
I don’t know. Her feeds that are terrible are just a few a day, seomtimes just one. Bla,bla, bla, sorry to bore you with our infinite issues but you guys such a great source of support!!! Do you think she has an allergy if it’s just the poop being green and mucousy sometimes? I rented a big, fancy, cadillac of a pump yesterday so I have a backup if I freak out and feel to anxious to feed her which is a comfort. I really want to bf as long as evreything’s okay and it seems to be…sort of. Anyway, I’m starving so I think I’ll go have a turkey patty! Yum!!June 6, 2007 at 1:21 pm #35760Anonymous

sounds like she has some sort of intolerance not an allergy. i see in your siggy it says MFPI. what is that to? have you eliminated dairy and soy

Keymasterpage 2 of the ‘main’ mspi post (first one in the mspi forum)
will tell you all about the differences b/t allergiees & intolerances

if the poop isn’t green all the time and isn’t mucousy all the time then perhaps it isn’t anything- even w/ Ari my non-refluxer, I have seen green and mucousy poops, lol
are you on the TED right now?
if so, after a full 3 weeks of that, if you’re still seeing the stools & you’re curious, then i would eliminate rice
there are a lot of posts to go through
but people from the past can help you

InactiveClaire,
I am glad things are starting to go better. I hope they continue to improve!

Keymastera thought: are you taking any vitamins that might have milk or soy in them??
June 6, 2007 at 6:05 pm #35800Anonymous
InactiveHi again,
Nope, no vitamins with milk or soy and I’ve been on TED for two weeks in the morning. I put MFPI because I was sure she had an intolerance or allergy to things other than milk or soy but now I’m wondering if I’m wrong. I think her poop is MUCH better than when I was eating dairy but the docs say don’t worry since everything else is good. If she has an intolerance, well, I guess I’ll keep doing TED for another week and if it’s still green, like yousaid Laura, I’ll take out rice. Also, our G.I appoint. is getting closer(finally!!!), any advice? Also, do the G.I’s automatically take the baby off bm and onto formula to see what the intake is? I know that might sound stupid, maybe I understood something wrong….I wasn’t sure but a little anxious seeing as bf is starting to be okay again. Thanks for the concern girls!!!

Keymastera GI absolutely should NOT tell you that you need to stop breastfeeding, if that’s what you’re asking?
if your baby is gaining weight and having pee & poop diapers, then there’s no need to measure intake, I wouldn’t think? My lactation consultant would have me bring in the baby hungry, weigh the baby, have me feed the baby one breast, weigh the baby again to see how much he ate and then we’d do the same with the other breast…
your baby is already on 30mgs of prevacid which I would think would do the trick. your GI might actually tell you it’s too high
, so if that happens I wouldn’t listen
!!the GI also might scoff at you for thinking your diet is affecting your baby’s stools/fussiness, etc….again:

Or, you can come out of the appt & post how wonderful s/he is!!!!

InactiveYay! I’m so glad things are going better breastfeeding-wise. I think you are awesome for sticking it out, because I’ve been there and was on the verge of giving up too but am SO glad I stuck it out. Now, we’re finally past the difficult feedings
I hope you will be posting something like that soon too!For me getting the OALD under control was a big part of our success I think. At this point, my production seems down enough that I can nurse him on both sides sometimes without a problem at all (no more engorgement, etc.)
I just wanted to add that I don’t think that a ped GI would try to insist that you use formula, but I may be wrong. Even if he does suggest that, you still have the ultimate say in how you choose to feed your baby, so you can stand your ground on that one.
Good luck with your upcoming appointment!

InactiveI agree with Laure. I have never heard of a gi saying to stop for intake reasons. Our gi said we needed to stop because he thought Justice had a dairy or soy allergy. This being my second I knew better. So, I said can’t I just take those out of my diet? He said, “oh yeah you could do that too”. Needless to say I never went back. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. That is your baby! I know of a lady that when she has her babies in the hospital she has papers signed by a lawyer as to how things will go. She doesn’t back down either. You know how they say well, it’s procedure. She says well it’s my baby!
I meant to ask you earlier, you said your baby still has some bad feeds. Is it the same time everyday? What is the time? You are doing 30mg, but are you splitting it up? Sorry if you have answered this a million times already.

InactiveOh,
She’s on 30mg of prevacid twice a day. I’m playing around with the times trying to figure out if the cruddy feeds happen when there’s a big gap between doses. TRYING being the key word there. If things aren’t better in a week, should I consider the prevacid not working?
Thanks for the advice about the G.I.I will go in prepared to stick to my guns about bf. AND the prevacid dose….if it’s working. Today was a good day though. No bad feeds which is amazing. Breastfeeding was so enjoyable, the way it should be. I do still have my monster pump if I need it though. Seriously, this thing is worth 1200 dollars!!! Can you believe that? It really is awesome though. Anyway, thanks for caring everybody. I know I say that everytime but I really MEAN it everytime. Have a great night!!!

InactiveHey Claire, just now getting to this… SO SO SO glad to hear that things are looking up for you both. I think the pump is a great idea too.
As for the poop… man, my husband still kids me about how much I inspect the poop. He says the only thing I haven’t done is taste it.. YECK, but he’s right!
So don’t feel like you’re the only one inspecting poop. Also, Ben’s poop was green and mucousy at that age as well, and it got much better at around 4 months.. I’m not sure why. My diet really didn’t seem to affect it at all. Like other moms have said, I would worry more about her eating, and gaining weight and as long as she is peeing and pooping I think you’re doing GREAT!!

InactiveI’m so glad to hear things are improving. Hopefully the few feedings a day that are still a problem will improve once she’s been on the Prevacid for a little longer. Maybe three 10 mg doses would work better for her. That’s what Myles was on. Marci-kids does reccommend three doses a day because babies metablolize these meds so fast.
Great job with the nursing. Way to go mommy!!!
I’m so glad you stuck it out and I hope it continues to get better and better. I wouldn’t worry about the poop thing either. Babies’ digestive systems are so immature when they are first born. Maybe she just needs a little more time for her gut to mature.
Keep us posted!

InactiveNo bad feeds that is great.

Just my opinion, but if things don’t stay improved I would try giving the prevacid 3x a day. If things do get better and stay better, then I would cancel the gi appt. too. That is just me though. We are not too fond of the drs. office. The boys have to be really sick before we take them in. It always seems like a waste of time for us.
I can’t tell you how excited I am that you guys had no bad feeds today. Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! That is so awesome! -
