InactiveWhen adding oil to things like rice milk and possibly food does it change its taste? I know Colt likes the flavor of somethings but he really needs some added fat but I don’t want to add a oil that will change the flavor of whatever he is eating. Like the Avacado oil he hates avacados so will he not like the oil? HELP PLEASE

InactiveHi, I’m not Laura, but I do use flax seed oil for my children. It doesn’t have a strong taste and all my children take it plain from a spoon, or will eat it mixed into their foods. For my older girls I sometimes mix it into their yogurt or oatmeal. For my infant I mix it into his oatmeal in the morning and also give him a teaspoon of it once in a while. He doesn’t seem to mind it at all, and he’s very particular and gags when he doesn’t like something.
I never heard of avacado oil but it sounds like a great idea and I’m going to check to see if my health food store has it.
Maybe it won’t taste as bad as it sounds.

InactiveHailey could always tell when I tried to add in flax seed oil. It has quite a nutty taste and she didn’t really seem to like it. I tried to add it into my 2.5 year old’s chocolate milk, and within a week she didn’t like chocolate milk anymore. But that’s just my personal experience from my kids. I found that canola oil and olive oil had less taste (we only tried them briefly as neither of the kids really liked oil added into their drinks), but I think they’re also more refined.
I see you’re weaning down Colt’s zegerid, that’s great! How is he doing overall?

InactiveLori,
Colt is doing great but the main reason we weaned him down was because I think the Zegerid was keeping him up at night. I don’t think that was the case now but now he is on the lower dose and doing fine with that. He went from Neocate to Goodstart at 1 year old and he started eating solids a little late. He eats pretty good now but we still watch what we give him. He will be on Goodstart and Zegerid until he is 2 years old. He just started walking so he was delayed there too. He is already talking and in general is a very happy baby. The only thing I would like to change is his sleeping habits. He doesn’t sleep well at night and so far no one can tell us why. He wiggles and moans and whines all night. Thanks for asking about him. I haven’t been on here much because he has been doing so good. But its still nice to help out others who have just joined.

Keymasterhi kathleen,
I think like the previous posters said, you just have to try it…some babies/toddlers pick up on it and others don’t have any problems…there was a mom who posted a while back about the smoothies she’d make for her daughter & all of the things she’d ‘hide’ in them…
as for the sleeplessness, liz/lovemysophia (used to post) a lot that she figured out it was still mspi that was causing all of the nighwakings for her toddler…anne, lucas’s mom swears by a gluten free diet…so maybe try 2 wks of a milk free diet (even go back to neocate somehow or just give enriched rice milk?) and see if colt’s sleeping improves? I wish I could help you more…
